idrive's worthless random
Has ANYONE figured out the reason why idrive is pretty hit and miss with its random play from an iPod?
EVERY time I start the car I have to re-activate the random I had it one prior to shutting the car off; luckily I have it bound to the 1 button on the assigned buttons row. Why can't it remember my random setting? Even using the 1 button, I have to time it just right to get the random to work. If I do it too soon, I have to turn random on and off like three times and then switch to the next some five or six times before it stops linear playing of the songs. Same thing with the volume; why does the volume always reset to quiet after the cars shut down? This is the single largest problem I have with my 135i. My car is a 2011, so I assumed it has the newest firmwares available as far as idrive is concerned. ANYONE have any light to shed on this subject? |

BMW did it just to piss you off.
I hate it too, and on random sometimes I'll have a string of songs play, and then it will go random again. It REALLY is truly random.... If you have multiple songs with the same name it will play all of them in a row before picking the next random song. My sound doesn't do that. Last edited by SlicktopTTZ; 11-04-2010 at 04:59 PM.. |

FWIW, I don't have iDrive and the radio behaves the same way. I set random all the time and sometimes, when I turn the car back on it is not set to random... I haven't yet figured out what specific circumstances cause this behaviour.

IMHO, the iDrive was programmed by a trunk monkey. It's hard to believe that German engineers couldn't do better than this.

What I do is put everything I want to listen to in a playlist and then hit shuffle on the iPod before I plug it in then everything shows up shuffled thru the iDrive.
I have 6 different playlists set up like this.

Yep same problem here. Was wondering if I was the only one. Seems that after you shut the car down the ipod stays on for a period of time. Sometimes after disconnecting and reconnecting it will stay on random for a day, then I get in the next morning and it's back to having to manually turn on random. Wonder if my ipod stays on all night then I get random in the morning? If it shuts down, then I lose the random selection? Personally not that concerned with it, just a part of my start-up procedure now.
