N55 UBS connection
On my 2011 135i vert, I have basic professional stock headunit with aux in and usb inputs. But, neither of my iphone4 or older ipod w/hard disk are recognized.
Anyone had success with new ipods or other devices? thx |

Are you using the BMW iPod adapter? I was told I no longer needed this for my 2011 when i picked up my car in November but it's been the only way to get my iPone 4 to work.

You need the Y cable that connects the iphone to the USB and AUX ports simultaneously. My dealer gave me the car with this cable already attached, I thought that was the norm.
This is the cable: I find that since the iphone music will use the AUX port for audio, a USB drive with good quality music will play with slightly better quality. I use a usb drive for music and just keep my iphone charged at home/work. I don't have to deal with iTunes that way too!

Pretty easy to do just drag the files from your itune and dump it to the thumb drive and you are good to go.

The Y-connector will hook up the iPhone 4 or iPod. You NEED to have both the USB and Aux cables plugged into the iPod at the SAME TIME. You can use the thumb (USB) drive INSTEAD of the iPOD, but you can use the iPod instead of swithching your MP3 library to the USB drive. Hope that clears it up a bit...

If you ordered the car with the value package, free option for the coupe, not sure if it was available for the convertible, the Y-connector should be included with the car. I would contact the dealer and at least ask. That is, if you ordered the value package, and you haven't checked your glove box for it. I had the same issue and gave my sales consultant a call. He told me to check the glove box and sure enough the cable was there. Not sure why he didn't show me this when I picked the car up...

My 32GB ipod works just fine in my car. I use the cable that came with my ipod. I also have a zune HD that works as well.
I have also tested a usb stick with mp3 tracks on it and that work too. |
