Advice on selling 2009 135i 60K miles

Hello

I am in need of some advice on selling my Black 2009 135i with M package 60,500 miles, manual with short throw shift. I went to Carvana and got a quote. The car is in great shape minus a couple of scratches and a small dent on the left front underbody of the fender. Is this a vehicle that you all would suggest I sell to Carvana and just be done with it or is it a more niche vehicle that can sell elsewhere? Thank you ahead of time.

Lol I bought my 135i on Carvana.

But honestly there is a niche for a well maintained 135i, however just do your due diligence. Get a quote from Carvana, get a quote from CarMax, get a quote from a stealership, then go from there.

If you are trying to make the most money off of it, you will always make more off a private sale. But are you willing to schedule test drives, deal with haggling, and all the stuff that goes with a private sale.

Ultimately it comes down to how much effort you want to put into selling it.

Here + the normal national ads you can place yourself.

Look around at what's currently for sale and the prices on them and you'll get a feel for what you can get for yourself. Weigh miles, condition, and features more than just the year.

Off the top, high teen's? What did Carvana offer?

^^This^^

Plus, are you willing to wait, because you probably will have to if you sell private party. Only a bad thing if you want/need the money right away.

Also, those are low miles and it's a manual. I'll bet there's somebody out there that wants to buy your car.

Thanks everyone. Carvana offered about $10K for it. I figured I could let it go for a bit more than that. I was thinking about $15 to 17K. Figured I could ask that much given the reasons mentioned before of manual with short throw shifter and low miles. I'd throw in a set of 4 run flat tires that are on it now too. I'm in no rush to sell. Thanks everyone!

That's a major lowball. CarGuru values an 08 135i at $14,500.

Yes, sell it here and the many other private sites. $15 to $17 is correct. BAT and BMWCCA/Roundel are also very good places to post

A bit of advice for you if you decide to sell it yourself. Find someone who knows what they're doing and have them do a good but not overly aggressive paint correction on it, and have a good paintless dent repair guy look at that dent. One series paint will really sparkle with a good massaging. That dark paint will show every swirl and scratch. Buyers look at paint as a reflection (pun intended) of the care a car has had. You will get top dollar if the paint looks great. Ten grand is an insult to a manual 135i unless it's been beat to death and not maintained. I wouldn't take less than 14,000 for it unless it needs major work.

Thank you all for all the suggestions. Really appreciated. I will check out all the advice and go from there. If anyone on here is interested in the vehicle. I am located in Raleigh, NC and it is still available. I was thinking of letting it go for $16K and also throw in 4 sets of tires on top of that. I did have some touch up paint and was able to touch up the front driver side, hood scratch. Noticeable but much better. Thanks again!

Carvana offered you about the same as a BMW dealer would give on a trade.

A year or so ago, Carmax offered me $14,500 of my '12 135i M-Sport with less than 50K miles and in excellent condition.

I think 14->15K on your car is a reach from a private party. Likely 12 is a fair figure.

The used car market is VERY different from a year ago - it is absolutely insane right now. $14-15K is very, very doable right now. You should have held onto your car for another year.

I might agree with you except the typical used car buyer isn't looking for a 12 year old BMW.

Actually, except for a BMW enthusiast, no one is. At a dealer or public auction, I doubt this car would get more than $5K!
