Why the bumper swap from 135i to 1M bumper?

Hey all,

New to 135i's…. Just purchased an 08 stock m/t one that needs a little work (oil filter gasket of course).

But why does it seem like everyone and their brother/sister are changing their front bumper to the 1M bumper? Does it make resale value better? Better air flow?

Please fill me in?

P.S. I am ready to get flamed by asking this.

Thanks all!

-E

Some people just like the way it looks better.

Here is your flame suit.

My thought is that it would kill the resale value!

And damn that suit is straight fireeeeee 🔥

It might kill the resale value if the potential buyer pool wasn't also gonna do the 1M bumper as soon as they got the car anyway.

Personally I think it looks disproportionate - if you add in the rest of the kit of course it looks great.

M Sport or Performance bumper all the way. Maybe one day I'll pick one of those up

If getting one that actually widens the front, you get some extra front tire width too.

Strictly for looks.
Sure, the big ass cooling ducts pushing extra air over the oil cooler doesn't hurt, but, yeah, mostly for the looks.

Dumb in my opinion. I mean sure it looks great, don't get be wrong. But isn't a ton of body work involved? It's not just fenders and bumper, is it?

And then the rear would require body work as well, right?

Ahhhhhhh, I see your point of confusion!

Mine, and most of the one's you see referenced, are running replica 1m bumpers- a direct replacement for the 135 bumper. Darn near a bolt on replacement.

You are correct that the OEM 1M front bumper swap is another story all together!

They sell replica bumpers that fit stock fenders and hood, so it's really just paint to match the new 1M "Style" bumper.

Thank you guys so much! And for not roasting me. (Used to be a vw guy and Ppl would get roasted on there) It makes sense and it does look so good. May look into it one day.
