Imported Rims to Australia???

Wondering if anyone had successfully imported rims from overseas, shipping costs, customs etc.

Didn't find anything in Aussie forum, perhaps Tire/Wheel forum. Had a great experience with TireRack while living in the US, however don't see any mention of international shipping.

Looking at some Kahn RS-R's from London, one of my fav rims.

No problems importing rims and tyres from Tirerack in the US.
The problem I would possibly see for your in the freight from the UK, this is generally much higher freight prices and especially when you talk a large freighter such as tirerack.

My two cents if you go ahead and import, remember to use a Tariff concession number when importing and saving 10% duty.

Blacky, can you use the tariff concession number for the wheels if you ship the wheels and tyres together.? Also when do you quote the concession number, before shipping or when they arrive?

I think you can quote the TC if you import wheels and tyres together, maybe you should quote one for each and saving the 10% across both.
Generally I believe it should be on the customs declaration and possibly invoice with shipment, but I found this hard for tirerack to do, so I just contact Fedex the moment I had the tracking number to let them know I would like them to use a TC.
FEdex are not use to doing this so it took some persistance and a slight delay to the shipment but I got it done eventually.

I posted the TC number I used either somewhere else on here or the other 1er forum.

Can you explain the background behind this tariff concession and how can we exactly obtain this if thinking about importing tyres and/or wheels?

I think the one you can use for wheels is TC 8708.70 and can be found on the following page

Not sure if there is one you can use for the tyres.

You can always try getting Kahns or any other brand through local rim and tyre suppliers - any of the bigger ones will do it, you just need to shop around for best prices...

There are also copies of that particular rim by other manufacturers, which will cost alot less than the Kahns

Grab yourself some wheel brochures to find them or just ask at any of the larger wheel outlets to show you all thee similar styles from other manufacturers :smile:

To ensure your importing is successful, you need to be aware of customs rules. Usually shipping time, shipping fee and security of products during shipping are the 3 biggest concern for international shipping. The chosen forwarder will confirm with your shipping fee and customs clearance fee. I suggest you check ACC customs broker in Fremantle to help you with that.

To answer your question - yes you can still buy wheels from overseas no problem, lots of people still buy wheels from Japan.
