N52 2010 128i Spark Plugs and Coils replaced at 77k - Photos Inside
Found out that my valvetronic servo motor gasket was leaking, Oil was pooling in the nooks and cranny’s on the valve cover over cylinder 3 and 4. Couldn’t find any cracks... that was a relief.
Since I was there and had all the cosmetic stuff removed, I figured I would do plugs. Then I decided I may as well do the coils. I bought 6 plugs, 6 coils, Mahle air filter (same as OEM), and a Mahle cabin filter (not same as OEM) for less than what the dealer would’ve charged just to change plugs. I got the same as OEM NGK plugs and I got the latest revision Delphi coils. Interestingly, these NGK 5987 plugs are for 128i built 12/09 and older. 2010 and newer get a different plug. I wonder what the difference is. Anyways, spent an afternoon wrenching. Most of the time was spent cleaning the oil out of the nooks and cranny’ s. At least I don’t have to do the valve cover gasket yet and my ESS had no oil seapage. Anyways, plug photos below. Car feels smoother and has a little more pep! I should’ve put a new plug next to the old plugs. New plugs have a needle coming off the nipple. No needle left on any of them at 77k... so much for 100k spark plug intervals. |
