DVD MP3's work!!!!

Hey everyone. so i was fiddleing around with my comptuer and decided to make a DVD full opf MP3's. I have Navigation so it comes with the DVD drive, which is supposed to be for Navigation only. however, i popped out the Navi DVD, stuck in my mp3 DVD and just like that - 20 hours of music in my car.
Now - it works well, except names on the screen are a bit messed up. Pictures will be coming soon, but this is what i'm figuring out so far.
1. Song names can be no longer then 8 characters ( i think)
2. Folder names can be no longer then 8 characters
3. Song and folder names can NOT have spaces, or it gets all messed up.
4. The mp3 ID tag does work and shows the full description while the song is playing.
5. You can fit a LOT of music onto one DVD.
6. I dont know if it works, but i want to try a DVD-RW, but i dont have one. i know CD-RW's work in the regular CD drive.
7. Only works with navigation( i assume) because you need a DVD drie.
8. I dont have a number 8

On ya. and if you have spaces it converts one space into "&20" And if the song title/folder is longer then 8 ( i think), it would make the song "ColdPlay-Clocks" look like "Cold0002" or something F'd up like that
Let me know if anyone else finds things

This post says it will only recognize around 300 songs. Have you had that problem?

yes, MP3's on CD's work as well. also correction - a dDVD can hold 80 hours of music! I have not had the problem of onl having 300 songs. i know that there are much more then that on my current DVD and it shows them all.
Attached are 2 files, bottom two songs are the same, but the top 2 show what they look like when one is playing

Hey mds,

Did you make sure you set the file system to Joliet when you wrote the dvd? Not ISO 9660 or UDF.
If not, then this may explain the name and character limitation to only 8 characters.

This also applies to cd-rw's with mp3's.

Wow! What a break through. I'm surprised this thread hasn't gotten more traffic considering what a ground breaking thing this is.... I guess it's because of the recent server issues.

Anyways, I'm really really glad to see someone in North America get mp3 on their iDrive in dash player - CD or DVD. Can you give us some more details on your vehicle and CIP... like when did you get you e90, and if it was awhile ago, did you have to get a software update to get mp3 capability??

We need to know these things!!

I havent tried, nor do I really have a need, to have a dvd playing music. I enjoy knowing that the car knows where I am. MP3 CD's are more than enough for me.

Same here.
In Creator Classic, create Data disc. Then goto File menu -> Project Properties ->General tab. There you'll see File system with 3 choices: ISO 9660, Joliet, UDF. Choose Joliet and it should retain all the characters and spaces in the file names.

When was your car produced? Did this work on delivery or have you had a software update?

mds82,
Were you able to burn a DVD using a Joliet file system? Also, is there a method to shuffle songs on a MP3 CD or DVD?

mds82, I think you may need to try "mode 2: cdrom xa" at the bottom of the physical properties page. This is the same on cdrw's in order to retain all the characters. Sorry I didn't notice this sooner...
