Engine wise, its better than the N54 on figures while the car is no heavier than the 1M, so the performance is better and equally fun to drive as the Ms always have. As for the electronic fiddlings, as long as you can turn everything off when you on a race track, and the also-let-you-have-great-fun-on-public-roads MDM mode is still avaliable, the M3 could be my next choice. The only deal breaker could and may only be the electric steering. As for my 1M, I swore to keep it as my grand-son's first car... that's if petrol is still avaliable and affordable when that happens... |

For 1M owners, the jump to this car really isn't very much. It seems that 1M's are selling for between $50-60k depending on miles and options, so even if the M3 comes in at $80k it's not much of a stretch. The great thing about the 1M is that so far it has been virtually depreciation-proof, especially for those of us who don't drive many miles and picked them up on Euro delivery pricing. No matter how nice the M3 is, it's going to depreciate at roughly the same, or possibly even higher rate (due to the higher cost) as the last generation M3. At $80k, there are some interesting other cars to start looking at, and possibly some new stuff on the way, like the resurrection of the original Audi Quattro model.
If I did go with the new BMW M, it would have to be the coupe. I've had a few of the new 3-series sedans as loaner cars, and the small doors and visibility issues at the b-pillar are very annoying. |

I like the looks of the new M3/M4 but listen to this thing driving on some track. Worst sounding BMW ever.

By the way, compare 00:03-00:20 of your video with the 1M presentation video (below) from 00:24 onwards and from 05:28 onwards. Déjà-vu...

What a disgusting sound BMW has tried to make the car sound like a V8 Burble and did and epic fail. That's as bad as the fake engine sounds pumped into the M5 stereo.

No M3/M4 for me either. It s an old M5 in size. I never wanted an M5 so i also don t want an M3 in that size. I have owned an E90 M3 it s way to big for me. I want a smaller nimbler car. The 1M size suits me real good.
The wait is for a 6 cil M2. If it doesn t comes, the 1M never goes. |

I can't believe BMW has resorted to FAKE engine sounds and sound tracks of engines running through the stereo ALL the time with no option to turn off??? What are they thinking??
Not that my 1M was going anywhere anyway but wow this is just insane.

"The M3’s turbos are actually smaller than the turbos in the N54HP—the 1 Series M Coupe engine"
"The M3/M4 won’t tolerate sloppy throttle inputs. It’s without a doubt the highest-performance road car M has built, but it also requires a LOT of talent to drive ... at least BMW has a network of driver’s schools to help there, starting with the teen driving program up through the BMW CCA race schools" (http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-show...#ixzz2qsQAFFvN)
