Damn still a pig wish it was 2800lbs and 400hp. I dont see any reason to get rid of my current 1 now. But things arn't set in stone so hopefully these figures change.

I guess 3300lbs is good considering the extras, 345hp is a disappointment on paper. However, if they can deliver close too 333lb of torque right across the band then that would be a very different story.

I don't believe this 345 Hp figure for a second! Do you really think the BMW Perf Pack only makes 20 Hp? They might say "345" but I believe it will be more. Afterall... our cars make more than 300 Hp stock! 300 is just what they say to make 'everyone" happy.
I think we all know in our "M1 hearts" that it will be close-r to 400 Hp - when this beast comes out. |

I was expecting hp to be between around 360. I think anything above that is wishful thinking and delusional. It just makes no sense and I'm pretty sure scott already mentioned rough figures

so there's plenty of room for the //M 135 to head up in performance because the M3 will be going up by a lot, is my guess. |

The M division will calculate the correct bhp for the M1 to place it below the M3 as the base M model - if this car made 380bhp with 450nm of torque it would out perform the M3 in every aspect of performance (as i am expecting this car to be dynamite on the track) and that would make the M3 obsolete. BMW are in the business of selling cars and they have stated that they want to make the M brand more accessible (cheaper to buy into) this is the purpose of the M1 - the logic being that you buy an M1 and love it, when your circumstances change/allow you can stay with the brand and upgrade to an M3 - M5 etc. Why would a base car out perform a much more expensive model in the M line up? It will not happen. When the next gen M3 arrives in 2012/13 then the M1 will be upgraded accordingly. The M1 will always be slower in a straight line than the newest M3 which will always be slower than the M5 which will always be slower than M6 - and if you believe otherwise you clearly have no idea about brand marketing and profitability or are just dreaming. What you will get with this car is better handling than the M3 - the smaller/lighter the M car the better it handles (M3 better than M5 which is better than M6). If you want to sacrifice some handling in favour of more straight line performance then you can buy an M3, same with M5 and M6. Last edited by ss134; 05-08-2010 at 12:16 PM.. |

I dont see what everyone is complaining about. 345 is still more than a $60k Audi S5 comes with and more than the E46 M3 came with. Anymore than 345, the car will move into the M3 territory which BMW doesnt want to happen. I would be completely happy with 345 hp on 10PSI from the factory. I'll have the car modded way past that within a few months anyway!

Shame BMW won't decrease weight. A detuned v8 woulda been nice. All the
competition goodies ( steering wheel, cf bits, brakes yada yada) 3200 lbs 370hp. I can see a shiton of single turbo options coming out for this. However most people looking for speed will buy a used m3 or m5 before they shell out for this IMHO. Just wish german cars were cheaper. |

Why not do what they did for the S85/S65 and make it a S45TT?? Just remove the two front cylinders like they did for the S38>S14 and make it a TTV6?
I'm pretty sure that would be a monster motor. T |
