The base system offered in the US in 2008 and 2009 was the mid-level system in the rest of the world. It has as many speakers as the premium system offering in those years but it also has less power and different speakers. The "base" was the "Hi-Fi" in those years, in other words.

So I assume the 2 rear tweeters I was not finding are just mounted under the same speaker grill as the rear mids, which is why I did not see them.

There are no labels on any of my speakers. Am i missing two speakers, or was the premium stereo on 8 speakers in 2008?

The rear parcel speakers are dual cone and count as two each - that is where the 'marketing' math adds up to 10 speakers.
So you are not missing any speakers.

Anyone knows if the harman/kardon logo that goes on top of the speaker covers is available as separate part and what is the part number??

Maybe you could use a "M" sticker (instead of a Harman/Kardon logo).

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but based on the 3 pages, for 2011+ (2012 to be exact), if it does not say HK, you don't have HK? I bought a 2012 135i convertible from CA being shipped and below are the options listed. It's just a bit strange to see a car with Nav and Premium pkg w/o premium audio option...

I have the HK system and it has the logos on the tweeters in the door.. I just wanted to say that this is the best OEM car audio system I have ever had. Got the car recently and took a drive with two friends with the top down and playing some good mp3 recordings I had burned to a disk. Had the sound up pretty high with the surround turned on and it was just amazing.
I have had Bose systems in the past, etc., and this one out does them all.
