335i with DINAN reflash and Catback exhaust

http://www.dragtimes.com/BMW-335i-Timeslip-13063.html

This was tested near my place. I would have looved to be there.

12.3 in the quarter!!! I have a feeling the wait will be worth it.

Hopefully the 135i would require a bit less. As long as DINAN covers their product then I'm fine with it.

Honestly, I know DINAN is highly respected, so they must (one would hope) know what they're doing... but there is no way I'm putting that much boost through those tiny turbos. As it says though their programming is in beta, so who knows... maybe they're just seeing how much she can handle.

Haha, I totally understand your worries. 12.3 is VERY sick.

I dont think thats very high at all thats only a BAR, I know a few wrx guys run 16-20lbs and Evos almost up to 21lbs on stock turbos with no problem at all... Seams like if this is true these trubos on the bimmer are weak, hell a stock 2JZGTTE from a supra TT can handle 450whp with little modification at all, My brother had one in the late
90's with just a exhaust, boost controller, BOV, stock turbos, stock intercoller a little over 450whp on the dyno....

I mean shouldnt this engine be able to take more versus the EVO or STI's. The N54 is a 3.0liter versus a 2 liter. And its twin-turbo's versus a single. Also, its a 6cylinder versus a 4.

yeah i agree it seems like at 15lbs the other guy( vinazzurro )was making it seem it was gonna blow the turbos up or something. But i think Dinan out of all the Tuners out there especially matching the BMW warrenty with their products knows what there doing and 15lbs is not at all much. and can you just imagine those numbers on the 135 wow, im going after 911 turbos....

I've done 70K miles (out of a total of over 100k miles) on my 2001 Audi A4 at 14.5 psi (1 bar). That's with an APR chip and just one turbo having to do all the work to make 14.5 psi. I wouldn't be too worried about running at 15.5 psi max with two turbos.

Yeah, they are small, but there are two of them so the load gets divided between both turbos which reduces the load on each individual turbo. It really all depends upon how many RPM the turbos have to spin at to reach 15.5 psi, and the bearing surface and oiling/cooling for the turbo. Smaller turbos can actually have an advantage over larger turbos when it comes to durability because there is less mass having to accelerate and decellerate.

Little known fact:the turbos on the 335 are sourced from the same company that makes the EVO turbos. I have a client with a 335 coupe and an Active Auto box. They bought a M6 SMG this weekend and we raced the two cars, the 335 was faster to 100 and the M6 walked away at 100. THe 135 will weught 200 lbs less than the coupe and inside word from Vishnu is that their V2 box will make 2 times the power and have a safer tune!!!

STi is 2.5 and with a big turbo it can easily make 500-600 ponies..
There are EVO owners running 500+ hp cars also..
u cant say say that about 3.0 inline 6 with 2 small turbos just yet..

Have you seen the size of the turbos on the N54 though? They're pretty small.
I just question how much air they can really move.
I am sure DINAN knows what they're doing, but as it clearly says, this flash is in beta.

Wait till that M6 is nice and broken in...

Good results on the Dinan tune. That seems hella quick for just tune and exhaust tho, but very promising if true.

With enough money you can make any car do just about anything. These guys with 500-600hp have thousands upon thousands of dollars in their car.

That being said, im sure in 1-3yrs there will be a few 500hp+ 135i's running around. It just depend on how deep your pockets go.

That is nuts. I can understand adding another 100hp to make a nice 400+, but 500-600 is ridiculous IMO. I would rather buy a car with near that power stock than going through the headaches and experiments with my own cash which is unfortunately not indispensable.

My understanding is that a smaller compressor places a lower limit on the volume of air you can move, and increasing boost past a certain psi will only benefit you until the max volume of air is being moved; past that point, upping the boost is futile.

I don't know if 15psi is pushing that threshold, but I would like to see what DINAN decides on for their final product.

Regardless, a turbo is like anything else with moving parts; if you run it at its limit, it's going to go faster than one placed under less stress.

Last time I looked at that thread on e90post, somebody threw the BS flag at the time slip, saying that they were there on the day the test was supposedly done on that drag strip, and no other 335i was there then.

I'm going to find it again to see if there are updates.

God, I love the internet.
