Seems that's about 50mm or so.

BTW: From my first gear change with it installed it was really, really noticeable.
So you have only 50mm throws with the BMW Perf SSK.

So...

6MT

N54 = 80mm throws
N54 w/Perf SSK = 50mm throws
N55 = 70mm throws

NOTE: after I had my Performance SSK installed the throws were actually 55mm's!

I wonder if the 1M is shorter than 50mm.

Dackel, you wouldn't happened to have measured it when you were at the Welt would ya?

Noop. Sorry. The lady at the Welt was already giving me the evil eye when I took those interior pics - as she was showing the 1M to a VIP couple. I did not even ask her... I just opened the driver's door and took some pics. Then she locked the car back up.

I was thinking later I should have sat in the car and felt the shifter. Ohh well.

I think one of the "lucky ten" (who went to Leipzig) said the shifter was shorter then stock. Not sure IF that is shorter than Perf SSK or OEM.

Dackel
I think it was Woland's Advocate that mentioned that the 1M had shorter shifts in comparison to his 135i.

Here's an excerpt from what was written:

"The gearshift’s throw has been shortened and the box on the car I tried was largely slick and intuitive – you can lightly flick it between gears with speed and precision. Only a couple of power downshifts from third to second on the circuit session were a bit baulky and required a firm hand (but that may be me!). The clutch is perhaps heavier but not noticeably so. The steering actually feels lighter but, as ever, doesn’t provide a whole heap of feel through the typically plump steering wheel rim. "

IF anyone would care to measure their N55 or 1M shofter throws... I would be interested in double confirming that the shifter throws are 70mm's from 1st to 2nd gears.

I will, when a buddy returns to canada. I am stock for now debating between RE, BMP and my idea for OEM+ that may be as good as RE or UUC. UUCis too much cost, and B&M has some issues with shift knob

Btw, does ssk reduce distance to 5th gear? I really want to know if it will increase my confort with that gear shift, i dont want to move my seat

With my BMW Performance SSK it only changed the distance to shift from 1st to 2nd gears. I know some have said that fifth gear was up further(post SSK install)... but that was not the case for me. I think those guys had their SSK installed incorrectly. The shifter arm can go in either direction.

You will not need to move your seat. The side to side distance also changed some... but the pattern and spacing is still the same. Everything is just tighter, and snick snick in gear. Shifter effort is slightly higher, but that is to be expected.

Perhaps a better way would be to measure it in degrees. Draw a line up your shaft (!) with a dry-erase marker and sit a protractor across the boot edge... should be able to measure the shift angle - then throw distance can be calculated as a function of knob height.

Ok, on my 2011 N55, I measured 1-3/4" in first and 4-1/2" in second, so 2-3/4" x25.4=70mm throw, it looks to be the same.
I then sat in my 92 Miata turbo with a short shifter, the difference there was the shifter returned to near center on angle after each shift, maybe sloppy but in location, so the movement was about 40 mm between each shifts, really short, grab it and ram it into gear even with a glove on.

This is why a lot of us are so happy with the BMW Performance SSK. The throws are also 50mm's from 1st to 2nd and it really tightens up the shifter linkage. I think its one of the best mods I have done.

I have the newer B&M. It was pretty stiff at first, but after a year or so it was pretty smooth. Love the short throws.
