I hear they are working on a Spec E9x series

Anyone know anything about this? If so will the e82/e88 platform be eligible? The car is mechanically identical.

Thx!

Also, who is "they"?

Yes it is being organized between Condor Speed Shop and NASA

I highly doubt the E82/e88 would be eligible because there is a couple hundred pound weight difference and the much shorter wheelbase would be an uneven playing field against the E9X.

Full in progress rule set can be found on the site, there's 0% chance of an E8x being allowed.

This is interesting, kinda like the idea more than specE46 since it's getting harder to find E46 330s but I have a feeling specE9x might be a little late to the game with all the rage around SpecE46 already.

That being said, this might be more cost effective than SpecE46 after a quick look at the rule set / availability of E9x 330s. Then again, running costs might be slightly higher with the E9x. : would love to try this in the future, if I ever get the balls/invest in w2w.

Pretty cool!!

Pretty much. Not sure what the point is yet another Spec class with high initial costs... The cars end up being not spec level priced if you build them to the pointy end of the competition like the Spec E46 guys do... I cannot see them being as fast as a Spec E46 due to the weight difference.

I don't think it really matters whether it's as fast. The point is to have a race series with limited mods and relatively low running costs.

Will it cost more than spec Miata? Probably but not much. At the moment a used e9x can be found for not too much once you sift through all the numbskulls who post their automatic as a 6 speed.

(06 325, '06 330, and '07-'12 328 models (3.0 n52 w/ 3 stage manifold)

I think it would be great if they would open it up to the 128 and just add a weight ballast requirement to accommodate the difference in base model weight.

It’s a new class that will be more reasonable than spece46. If your looking for cheaper options consider Spec e30(biased because that’s what I drive) or Spec 3 (e36).

You could always take the 128i in ST5 which is what the Spec E90s guys are doing now, would love to see a comparison between the two in identical spec builds.

Think spec e90 is the way of the future though, can pick up a used piece for a few grand is ideal and it’s a pretty quick car once built and transferable across organizations like gridlife, nasa, assume scca and bmw club racing.
