what have i done!!!!!

hey guys I needed to change out the valve cover gasket as it was starting to leak a bit of oil on the exhaust manifold.. when I was removing the valvetronic camshaft solenoid I didn't release all the tenstion from it and I pulled it out.. not to concerned, so I cleaned all debris from the old gasket off the head, installed the new rubber gasket, and re installed cover and reattached all wires plugs ect.. while iam there I also changed the two solv in the front of the motor.. OK HERE is where I need your help.. I start the car up as per bmw specs.. motor is running perfect,, after about a min or two it starts to cough and sputter and almost stalls.. checked all hoses and clamps, all ok, ran a diagnostics on my computer, it shows all good until it starts to stutter than I get hundreds of misfire codes on all cylinders.. WHAT HAVE I DONE... did I damage the vanos, destroy the camshaft, wreck the ozone layer, iam stumped, can someone please help me out with this, I can take videos and provide pics of diagnostics upon request if needed.. right now I get code 2882. I clear it, restart car, no code until engine warms up, hear a click, then code reappears again... and back to audi syndrome, motor runs like poo...

I'm helping fix the car. Here is what I've done. I have relearnd the stops. I have checked the camshaft bearing ledge on the inlet side and it is good. I've replaced the solenoids and it ran fine until WOT, then when I parked, I took both exhaust and inlet solenoids out and exhaust rattled, inlet did not. Later on, the inlet started to rattle. What I'm starting to think now is that there is a problem with the engine reaching a high enough oil pressure to fully activate the vanos system, which somehow makes the car run like crap, even after the computer has stopped requesting that high oil pressure. The only think I can think of now is a poorly built solenoid, or there is a oil pressure leak somewhere in the car that doesn't relate to the camshaft bearings.

For the solenoids, did you plug them back correctly. There are two right (one on top and one on bottom), and both have identical connectors....I once accidentally connected them backwards, had some major idling problems...switched the connectors, and the problem was solved.

I did this exact same thing. My car would drive like shit and throw a code for VANOS, but not misfire codes. Once it threw the code, it would run fine (I assume because it stopped using VANOS).

The wire coming from the exhaust side of the head plugs into the intake solenoid, and the wire coming from the intake side of the head plugs into the exhaust solenoid. I just assumed the exhaust solenoid would use the wire from the exhaust side of the head. But you know what happens when you assume...
