135i $$ for M3

Saw an all black 18' M3 at my local dealership yesterday and I fell in love with it.

Made an appointment to get a trade-in value for my car. Only issue is a crack on the passenger side of the windshield. They offered me around $7,000. They said there is no way I could get anymore than 13k for my car. I'm positive I can sell it for more. What do you guys think?

2011 135i 63k miles, 6MT, M-Sport, Navigation, USB/Aux, Alpine White w/ Coral Red interior. Exterior 9/10. Interior is 10/10

I think your guesses are pretty close. I considered trading mine in when I got my X3 (I ended up keeping it and having both), also a 2011 with 6spd, Nav, leather, HK, etc. plus a few factory options I know don't add much. Main difference is I had ~ 26,000 miles. My numbers were about 8k trade in, 16-18k selling it, thinking along the high side of that with low probably being more realistic.

wow, makes me feel better about my trade when I picked up my '13 128 back in August. Traded in my '12 plain jane 128 vert with 98000 on it and got $8500 for it.

Trade ins are always terrible, they are just for convenience. I'm sure you could get 13-15k for your 135i.

Either way, private sale or trade in won't put much of a dent in a 2018 M3 that has gotta be ~60 grand.

no way you only get 13k for that car. I think you'd be closer to 18 with the combo you have, possibly more. White on red with navi and 6mt is a rare find.

Let me explain how car negotiations work.

If a car is listed for 60, they can let it go for say, 57, depending on the situation.

If a trade has an acv of 7000, they can pay you 8500, sell you the 60 k car for 60 and still come on top of a guy that was offered 7000 but bought the new car for 57.

99% of people will think they had a good deal with a higher trade value, and many will walk away from a deal to get a worse/more expensive car somewhere else just because they think they're being paid more for their trade somewhere else.

This is why I always negotiate the price of the car first. I've had salespeople bring up trade ins or an actual payment per month number. I ignore both and go straight to what the final out the door price is. After that is done is when I bring up any trade and see what number they come up with. If it's not to my liking, I'll go with another option to sell the car. There are car buying companies out there who bridge the gap between full on private sale and trade in. I used one that was a very quick and pleasant transaction. I got a bigger check over what the dealer would have given me for trade in and also bigger than what CarMax quoted me.

I'd say somewhere between 15-20k. Who gives a shit about the windshield crack.

Only reason to trade a car or sell to carmax is if there's something wrong with the vehicle and you need to get it gone quick. I've done it a few times.

Probably not the most decent thing, but once was with a dealer who didn't want to give me a better price because "we're the best name in the area, the best cars, and you're not gonna find anything more convenient." Gave him a list of vehicles for trade, lowballed me on all of them, so I dumped some high viscosity fluid into the one with pretty bad rod knock that I was planning on parting out, and passed the problem on to them.

I digress. Your car is worth more than 8 grand.

I just KBB'd your car. $11-13k trade in. Higher on private selling obviously.

That dealer is just grinding you down aimlessly. Call their bluff send them the KBB screen shot.

Offer $54k (10% off) on the M3 and ask for $14k trade in. Fix the crack in the windshield. Negotiate from there.

I'm a bit late to all this, but here is what these cars are trading for at Manheim nationwide.

Based on what I see, assuming your car has a clean Carfax, I'd say your car is worth between $10-11k on trade (or at least that's what I'd pay for it if it came into our store). Also, not to start another war here, but despite what the internet tells you, in the real world, the manual transmission is not a positive, unless its and M car or something special.

This is wrong.

Cars are valued what people will pay for them. If there's less of something, price goes up with demand.

Long story short, I sold my 07 RWD 328i with 130k km for 12.5 while similar AWD and/or Auto 328i were advertised for 6-8 k.

Sent several people away with "go buy the auto then" until the right buyer came along.

There's a difference between selling a car as a business and as a person. You have lost sight of the person-to-person market, which is ok, but the OP is not a store.

Actually, it is 100% accurate and it is what people are paying for them.
The OP's question was in regards to his trade in value, meaning trading at the dealer and I gave him data and my opinion. If the OP chooses to sell the car himself, then yes, he will get more for the car. Are you always this dense?
