To be honest, I was hoping a retractable nav system, similar to the 08 models, would have been something that proliferated throughout the model lines. My hope was that the 09 refresh would bring an even more svelte retractable system. I guess not.:iono:

On the bright side, it will make a good bin for trash!

Don't understand the hate for the new nav. Don't want to start trouble, but pop up nav reeked of "afterthought". I think this looks sharp and less intrusive than the double hump 3-series. Let'em bash all they want.

Hey 123D I'm stoked for you that your car finally came! Enjoy it mate!

The new nav looks interesting. I personally liked the way the old one folded down, but since I'm getting this one now (well I'm not sure since my dealership still says they don't know what options the 09's come with down here!!) I'm sure I can learn to live with it. The screen looks massive.

Super keen to see more pics of your car

I must be one of the few that actually liked the 08 idrive setup. I thought the pop-up screen was actually pretty cool when I saw it in person and I liked how you could fold it away.

My 135i is an 09 delivery so I can expect the new idrive setup. To be honest I'm really not fussed about how it looks in the dash... This is actually the first car I will be getting with a factory nav system and I'm really excited about it.

Oh and if the 09 idrive intergration setup is one of the major drawbacks in the 135i then I'm going to be more than satisfied with the car. I can't wait!

Thanks for the comments

The new nav screen is far too big to fit in a folding arrangement so on that basis I am more than happy with it being a fixed screen. I'll take the enhanced resolution and functionality over a folding screen any day.

And I think it would have caused a lot more disruption to the lines of the dash if they had tried to incorporate a double hump like the 3er.

Also, you can turn the screen off. And when it is off it is not just displaying black and consequently glowing at night. It is off. And if you want it on it has a dim night time mode so it will be no brighter than your instruments.

I will do a proper photoshoot in better lighting conditions once I have taken delivery and configured all my idrive settings.

Andrew

Heh, interestingly, I would have *preferred* the double hump style, maybe even to the popup in the 2008.

All up to personal taste, I guess!

Yeah, please do. Oh, and if you can be sure to highlight all those features us 2008 owners don't have, that'd be great!

Congrats on your car!

Just paid outstanding balance on my 123d - yep that hurt - and booked time with dealer on Thursday for handover!

After 5 months it's finally going to be in my hands.

I think it looks great. I really don't like my pop-up screen, nor am I happy with the quality of the graphics or iDrive options in the 08 version. Wish it was possible to upgrade to the 09 version for a reasonable cost. Looking forward to seeing pics of it turned on!

Mmmm I like the way the screen folds down in the 08, but I really like the new functionality of the 09 iDrive.
But I just read in the Australian forum that apparently Australia isn't getting the new iDrive until November builds or something like that, so odds are NZ won't be getting it either. Pity I had psyced myself up for the big screen, new controller and HDD, oh well.

I'm having my 'delivery experience' tomorrow morning at 9.30 and I will be taking the rest of the morning off to play with the car! So you can expect more photos sometime after that.

I stand by my earlier comments in another thread that all 1ers built from 1 September are MY09 and will have the new iDrive. I know that the Leipzig plant was closed for retooling at the end of August and I would be so surprised to learn that they are still producing the old iDrive for just a few months for some markets. That makes no commercial sense.

I hope for your sake DCD that I'm not wrong!

I think I'll wait until I see it in real life before I commit to getting one but at this stage, I don't like it. Like others before me, it looks like an after thought but more to the point it doesn't look like it belongs in a prestige car, but it would suit a Hyundai!!

Yeah I know that mine will be MY09. And I also think it doesn't make sense that some markets would get certain spec and others get a different one, unless they are coming out of different plants.

Oh well only way to tell for sure is to wait and see!

I can guarantee there's only one plant. Leipzig!
