There are basically two ways to retrofit, I ended up going with route number 2 after not being able to acquire a harness.

1. Use (NLA) BMW retrofit harness, build your own, or harvest from a wrecked e82 with factory xenon then follow the attached PDF. Also requires new FRM3 with coding.

2. Use canbus cancelers, adding an additional ground for low beam to function and additional wiring modification to get high beams.

Some pics of my Euro pre-LCI retrofit:

Hi ubersteuer

I have an E88 with factory halogens, ive curenlty got DEPO V2's on it but the light output is horrible. So I have purchased the following (I dont intend to install washers and auto leveling);

2x bi-xenon (non adaptive) headlights
1x FRM2 XE (xenon model)
2x genuine ballasts
2x D1S globes
2x H8 Globes
1x K+DCan (ODB) programming cable
1x NCSExpert downloaded

The instructions that are out there are; spread all over the place, are confusing, not step by step, etc.

I would be happy to do a DIY with photos and step by step from removal and installation to wiring and coding.

However I'm not clear on the process myself.

You need the wiring sorted. When you code the new frm with the correct VO it changes the required pin locations on the frm compared to halogen and needs a few new connections added. Try and track down the retrofit harness to make your life easier.

Basically your halogen system is a completely different wattage to the xenons

do you have links to;

the coding that needs to be done
the installation of the frm
the wiring locations (through the firewall ?)
the pinouts on the lights and the FRM.

i understand this stuff is searchable but im trying to pout it all together.

The BMW retrofit guide is attached to my post. It should have everything you need except the coding.

Why go thru all that trouble for HID?

You can now get plug and play LED lights which replaces halogen bulbs without the ballast.

I dont like the BMW halogen light clusters they are horribly ugly and dont have the angel eye rings.

The depos angel eyes are dim and dont have the same build quality of the BMW genuine units and the projectors on the depos are awful, the light pattern (cut-off) is dangerous at night.

so changing halogen and led bulbs doesnt really solve anything.

2011 E82

Hi Guys

I am new to this forum and I am following posts on the Halogen to Xenon retrofit on a BMW E82.
I am from South Africa and I recently bought this car for my everyday runner, however I am not satisfied with the standard halogen headlights
There are several posts on the conversion from halogen to Xenons. I am not sure what to do exactly.

I have tried something else, maybe you can help me. On the plug side, I added pin 2 and bridged it with pin 4, which is the negative. I added pin 5 and bridged with pin 6 for the shutter, and I added pin 7 and bridged with pin 1 for the eyebrow LED
So, the angel eyes and eyebrows light up, and the shutter opens and closes when you switch the brights. The only thing is that the low beam is not coming on. Do I have to make another wire change, or will the low beam only work after coding?

Your help will be much appreciated. Thanx
