Custom Ordering the 1er
Would it be more expensive, less expensive, or equal to custom order a 128i compared to picking one off the lot?

I initially was thinking that the only way to get the 135 I want was through special order....leather , auto, thats it in Jet black/coral....since then, the premium package grew on me, so with all the BMW dealers here in Dante's Inferno, I figure that I have a decent chance in finding this combo.....
IMO, when you special order, you do get EXACTLY what you want. However, you may lose some bargaining leverage, which depending on when you plan to order may be meaningless anyway....I anticipate all 135s on the lot selling at full MSRP for 6 months.....also, Irv on this board advised me about 90 days from order to delivery.....not so bad..... |

Yea...The way I see it though, I want a 128i!! It seems like mostly everyone wants a 135i. I don't really think that the 135i comment pertains to me. Do you have the same opinion on the 128i custom ordering?

My personal opinion (meaningless) is that you'll have more leverage with a 128....my apology, I did not read your original post thoroughly enough to realize your interest in the 128......I think the 135 will outsell the 128 handily.....

I agree...I'm hoping to get a good deal on one. I won't buy the car until August of 2008, so I have about 6 months for fire to die down.

I'm on the fence of whether to put my deposit down and have the car 2nd Qtr of next year or wait and hope that I can get a better deal several months after it is released.
I have a feeling that the 135 will be selling for MSRP for at least the entire 1st year of production. I'm not sure how many of you knew of the supply and demand problem was for the new Civic Si but I think it will go the same way. People were paying over MSRP or MSRP for the 06 into the 07 year. Is it true they are going to limit production to roughly 20,000 for the 1st year? |

I don't believe so. I think the 128 will be the series volume leader, with the 135 acting as a more of a halo car for the series. I'm betting dealers will get far fewer allocations for the 135 than the 128. As such, buyers will have more bargaining leverage on 128s vs 135s.

There are almost 3x As many people intrested in the 135i to the 128i!! I think the 135i will outsell the 128i hands down!

Look how expensive the 335i is though! When people see a twin turbo in a 32-34K car, they will head straight to the BMW dealership to pick it up!!
