I found a canadian alpine white stripper model with 28,509kms and a accident claim of $709 to front. The dealer is out to lunch on its current pricing but wondering what the market price of car is. Having trouble with lack of sales data. I want to make a fair offer to its current value. Input needed.

Sounds like a bumper cover replace and paint. For 700 Canadian there is not much room for major repair.

That said, you may not be able to fully trust a 'receipt' or the sales guy. Bring a paint depth meter there should be a obvious difference between the bumper cover and the panels around it, if you have to go past the fenders to the doors to find a significant difference then you can bet there has been more than $700 dollars in repairs. Check under the hood around the front corners for obvious signs of repair, check the wheel wells, control arms, under carriage covers and front wheels for any signs of parts that look newer than others. If that looks good then 50 to 52k USD would seem reasonable to me.

I swear this car with the $700 repair has been for sale for a long time - either that or it keeps getting resold. Something with it seems odd.

really think twice about accident collector cars unless they are at extreme discounts and you are getting it for a thrasher/everyday car never to be sold. Sure there are exceptions, but in general they are forever stigmitized. Good luck and at the very least, like Amnizu says ALWAYS put a paint meter all over the car before making your final purchase decision. You can have a "Oh it's just a bumper respray from a parking lot bump" and also have frame damage too. You really need to inspect these cars well at 25%-40% above original MSRp

Usually damage under $1500 won't make it to a report here but could be different in Canada. Bumper resprays are pretty common but as the price should adjust because you are paying collector price in my humble opinion. With that said, If you have the receipt for a bumper respray showing where it was done, that would give me piece of mind. Paint meter is nice to show you that it was re-sprayed but it won't tell you about the quality of paint job, matching, etc.

Here in San Diego there are only a few body shops that are Certified BMW re-paint shops. I would look for that. In 2004 I had the rear bumper resprayed on an Acura TSX. I just saw one last month with the paint burnt a crisp, with peeling clearcoat and looked horrible except for a shiny rear bumper 12 years later. It was my old car that was painted by Thearles Autowerks here that is a BMW certified shop. The crappy Honda/Acura paint burnt off but their paint still was all there! I wish I took a picture now!

No, I don't. I assumed someone just traded it in for a Mclaren. There are only 4 1M for sale in Canada now, two in BC and Two in Ontario. Do you mind to share your offer? Like the forum members mentioned,a low mileage one in US is about 55k US, with the current exchange rate, it is in the 75k range. It is a rare car in Canada.

That's the price about one and a half year ago for a black one with 50,000 km. It looks like the price has gone up. BC cars asked for more too due to the lack of snow and salt. I like the E46 M3 too but it is difficult to find a clean non-convertible with low mileage. I remembered a service advisor once told me the maintenance cost for it is quite high. Good luck with the search.

66k taxed in? I'm sorry but that's not a "solid offer", 66k is 57k before luxury tax, that's 42k usd for one with less than 20k miles. I'm not surprised they turned it down, you offered the dealer 20k less than his asking price. I think you might need to rethink your idea of "overpaying".

Actually its 62.5k plus taxes because i am a sask resident and once registered would be closer to 70k. I can definitely find one for that price. Just gonna bide my time. But your open to your opinion.

Yeah, that 's a lowball offer on a non accident car for sure, but for potential buyer( U.S and across the country).. low miles are hardly everything. It's an accident car though, and those need to be over vetted to ensure they are ok. Thats energy and risk costs. From a potential buyers mind.. why have an accident claim for only 700.00? Wouldn't you just pay that out of pocket and avoid the ding on the resale? I mean, a deductible is usually way more than that. That begs me to think the accident was worse than reported and they guy paid cash and paid the residual 700.00 to ease the appearance. Total speculation on my part though. I would not be insulted by low offers. Not everyone wants to assume the risk and that's ok. No matter how slight the damage..I'm knocking off at least 10k from peak market price of any offer I would submit too. Damaged goods.

No offense, but if it's your car with 700$ damage claim and you're selling the car, you wouldn't be singing the same song, 10k? I think not, and this notion that the previous owner should have just paid out of pocket instead of insurance claim is kind of ridiculous.

I personally think his asking price is more than fair, compared to our US neighbor, but hey, if you can get someone to sell you a 1m with that kind of mileage for the price you're willing to pay, then that's great for you.

I'm curious, seems like you've had quite a few opportunities in the past to snatch up 1m at good prices, what happened?

I'm guessing that he felt it was over priced and low balled previous opportunities too. After seeing prices rise and less and less opportunities showing up, he continues to low ball ahem "solid offer" a great example.

This is exactly how I feel about E39 M5s and I still don't own one. Mad AF.
