They filmed on several canyon roads in the SLC area. the closest from SLC it's self is Big Cottonwood canyon, then take the Guardsman Pass exit to Park City. Lots of switch backs and beautiful scenery.

The scenery makes you feel small in a good way. We probably shouldn't advertise it too much tough! : ) Last edited by nachob; 12-27-2016 at 02:37 PM.. |

A few suggestions (none of these are terrific "driving roads," but the scenery is worth the time added to the drive): Option 1: via US 163 and Monument Valley - adds an hour to the standard drive. More impressive on the southbound leg of the trip (or you can just stop the car, get out and look behind you). I took this in November from "Forrest Gump Point." This is looking south on US 163. Option 2: via SR-9 and Zion National Park - adds an hour to the standard drive. Might want to avoid in summer (peak tourist season for Zion). I drove this road on New Year's Eve a few years ago in the middle of the night with a full moon, snow everywhere and nobody around. It was otherworldly! Option 3: "Choose your own adventure." Southern Utah has five national parks, some of the darkest skies in the country for stargazing and a lot of other scenic places. I'm guessing with a little planning you could have some great experiences while only adding a couple hours of driving time to your trip. Side note: One of things I think a lot of people miss in this era of GPS navigation where "fastest route" is the default setting is the chance to add a trivial amount of time to a trip to see some amazing scenery. We made the trip between Dallas and Salt Lake City a few times and it only adds about 45 minutes to go via Independence Pass, Colorado (12,095 ft / 3,687 m) where you're surrounded by 13,000-14,000 ft peaks (4,000 m) vs. taking the standard, boring route. I'd be happy to get together when you're here. Sorry to . Back on topic now... |

Thank you very much for that detailed list of driving! My wife and I are presently arguing, I mean discussing, which vehicle to take - the 1M or her MDX. We might be bringing mountain bikes with us so that could narrow down the choices quickly...

///BYU I have done some but not all of the road choices you listed. I love the Forrest Gump road option.
