WTB: 2011 135i 6MT transmission
My 6MT 2011 135i with 127K miles won't go into reverse and I'm trying to find a replacement transmission. I searched the forums and couldn't find any. If anyone is parting out their 2011+ 135i, please let me know! The transmission is a GS6-45BZ -TH4 (PN#23007599342). Also, where do I sell my non-functional transmission? I'm assuming a refurbisher would want to take it off my hands.... Thanks! |

Have you considered just taking it into a transmission shop? The 6MT isn't some exotic piece of machinery, I'd guess an indie could fix it unless there is some known parts shortage that I'm not aware of.

Wow, how common is this? This guy had the same problem a couple months ago and it required a new transmission: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1552808

I think you can source a single gear/synchro (it might actually be reverse) from Germany, but, it's like $600. Might as well just buy a used box... |

Better off buying a new/used trans before wasting money on a shop to take it apart. |

It's specifically for the GS6X45 though which is xdrive. Not sure if there is a difference in the synchros or gears... $200 for the reverse synchro (assuming that's the issue) + labor is still going to be more money and hassle than just scooping up a used transmission for $800. |

The cheapest transmissions I could find online were for $1300-126K miles and $1800-76kmiles.
I found that post on ebay that bbnks2 posted and same to the same conclusion that it's not worth the hassle doing a transmission teardown and wasting time and money going down a dead end path. I'm just going to buy one of the transmissions I found online and roll with it. I might try to get the faulty transmission fixed and sell it to someone with the same issue later though. |

I still have mine sitting in my garage in the hopes that someone eventually gives us an opportunity to rebuild these things. You would think after all these years ZF would be selling rebuild parts for resale but nothing seems to have leaked.

Had the same issue about a year an change ago at 70k miles. Ended up getting BMW NA to pay for 30% of the replacement. Total bill was somewhere around $7,500 with a 335is clutch upgrade and a few other little things that needed fixing.
Hope it all works out for you! Funny thing is when I first inquired with BMW NA about the issue they told me they have never heard of this issue and claimed it has never happened to any of the manual transmissions. Shortly after this I had conversed with 2-3 people who have dealt with this issue on the forum. |
