European 1Addicts - Sella 2.0 Tour: July 17 - July 19th, Planning thread...2015
Over the last three years every summer a "few" of us European 1Addicts have gotten together for some AWESOME driving thru the Alps. The first two years we went to Stelvio(v1.0 & 2.0), last year we traveled into the Italian Dominates aka Sella 1.0 So where shall we travel this year? At first i was also thinking of going to Sella - just further South. But when I traveled to Geneva last month... I stayed in Annecy, France... and I really liked the feel of that city. It had a very Italian feeling to it. And from there... we could drive further South thru some awesome Alpine roads. IF we do travel into France for this years tour... it would be a long drive. Just getting to Annecy would be about 700 kms from where most of us live in Germany. For some member its even further. So... I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks? About WHERE to travel and WHEN. I was thinking IF we go to France... to avoid the month of June bc of the Tour de France. Would the "4th of July"(weekend) work for everyone? Lets discuss! Hi Dack. Thanks for the details, this looks like a nice route. I've missed the past 2 years and I want to make it for this years run and link up with everyone. Unfortunately for me the 4th of July won't work, I have to work the holiday that weekend.
I lived in Switzerland a few years ago and one of the things that I miss the most is driving the Alps. Looking at the region they have a bit of the same feel. Thanks again for you hard work with planning and if the dates slide I'm going to do my best to be there. As for other places to drive, I will always love Switzerland but lodging will be expensive and it's a police state for speeding. Hmmm, southern Austria with a trip in Slovenia to lake Bled and then over into Italy? Just a thought off the top of my head. Hmmm recon weekend? |

That's why I was thinking of driving thru France with a little detour thru Italy's Western edge. The tour date is not set in stone. I just feeling everyone out for a "date" and "place". What weekend would work for you? You could always join us for our small "pre-tour" starting from the Mummelsee in the Black Forrest - Alpine Strasse. We are thinking of also stopping in Mulhouse(France) to visit the Schlumph Collection/Auto Museum. www.citedelautomobile.com/en/node/1472 Dack

Looks like we better plan on June then - IF we decide on France. Maybe late June, like you say, bc of the snow melting off the Alps. http://www.letour.fr/le-tour/2015/us...ll-route.html# What does everyone else think? Italy or France? Any particular dates in June? Or shall I just pick a date. Dackel

If I were single I would be in! I would need to drive my 335i to stay on the same level as you guys because my 118i would get left behind on the straightaways.
Very nice pics!

There's also the F1 GP held in Austria on 19 - 21 June... We're thinking about going to see it (you know, you only live once) as it is not so far away from the Czech Republic where we live - circa 550 km. Maybe some of you would like to go too or it could be our starting point, I don't know. Gonna discuss that at home.
I hope we'll be able to go this year. By the way, we were in Mulhouse in the museum in 2009 and I can only recommend it. |

I went back and read the post once more. In answer to your question I'm available in June on either the weekends of the 20th or 27th and from Mid July through all of August. Getting out to France for the kickoff will take me a day due Prague being on the eastern side of Europe. But as I said I would love to link up for the trip this year. Thanks.

I would join for a tour in June / July.. August does unfortunately not work for me, as I can hardly take off from work during the German summer holidays
IF we plan a longer trip somewhere down south I would like to plan at least between 5 to 7 days as it will be a very long trip back and forth

I just saw this video and man - do these roads looks sweet. But it is a haul and half.
The D2 road is near(just North) of the Paul Ricard Circuit... https://www.google.de/maps/place/Cir...65c2de82?hl=en

No idea if I'd be able to make this or not, but I'll definitely track this for updates. Been in Stuttgart the last 4 years and this will likely be my last summer here.
In my own personal experience, driving in France was expensive (lots of tolls) and relatively boring in terms of the drives. Seeing those pictures above of the Stelvio Pass totally makes me want to make the drive down there though! The Alps always make for a nice time. |

I am still torn on another Sella tour or someplace new like France. Some of us thought about a little Black Forrest(pre tour) and then spend the night in Mulhouse, France. We could then check out the AWESOME car museum there and then head on further South. Who knows maybe we could then cut thru Italy and see Sella again!! I am open to any and all suggestions on where to drive/tour. Lets hear some ideas guys! Dackel

Even if I can't make a whole tour, if there's a meet-up/drive in the Schwarzwald, I'd probably be able to swing down for that. I'd be interested in meeting up with some local 1er's, as I haven't had the chance to do that while I've been here. I'm starting to feel the modding bug coming on, so some experienced insight would be great. I'm actually off this week and if I'm feeling spontaneous might just take a "quick drive" down to Stelvio for the hell of it.
Also, I know it's a bit off topic, but does anyone here meet up for trips to the Nurburgring, Spa, or anything like that? Done the Ring a number of times but planning on hitting up Spa in August for the first time. Always more fun in a group! |

Yea... sure we can meet up. Last time we met at the Esso in K-town... near the Opel Werk. Then we drove thru the Black Forrest and down into Switzerland & Italy. Any place else on your Bucket List besides Stelvio? Dackel

Today, I think I might just take a short driving holiday starting in Baden-Baden. The Route 500 Schwarzwald Hochstrasse is supposed to be a nice drive and it's fairly close by. |
