Shipping Wheels/Tires

I'm posting this question for myself and then so an answer exists for others to search:

Can anyone please explain a decent way to ship a set of mounted wheels/tires? I'm open to options including pick-up from my home, or dropping them off somewhere. My main concern is that If I have to box them up they won't fit in my car.

Thanks in advance

The best way to pack them is the way Tirerack does when shipping wheels and tyres:

Thin layer of foam sheet on the face of the wheel, cardboard circles over face and back of wheel and sidewalls of tyre, 4 plastic straps at 45 degree spacing over the cardboard and around the tyre, packing tape over the straps to stop them slipping off.

4 tyres and wheels packed this way will fit in the 1-series with the seats folded.

UPS or Fedex should be fine.
