having a HUGE issue with rubbing please help!!

Hey guys, I have posted about this in the past with no reponse to it, and really need some help to get out of the pickle i got myself into.

i purchased from a friend, a set of Style 287 335i Sport pkg wheels, with (respectively of course) 225 40 18 and 255 35 18 pirelli p nero zero mud and snow all season tires. the suspension on the car is entirely stock.

when i had the tire shop install the rims they said it would require an alignment, and the guy (after finishing the install and alignment) said he test drove the car and had 0 issues with rubbing, or anyting else.

at this point the car has driven less than 5 miles since last night since i immediately was rubbing in the rear only on small-medium sized bumps.

would there be any way to get these wheels to fit properly without rubbing, as the rims look super aggresive on the 1er and i would LOVE to keep them. if not, i will be forced to sell them as a set and try to find a set of good tires with some rims VERY SOON, as winter is approaching.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks in advance!

let's start with you providing the offsets and widths of the new wheels.

the rubbing i think is on the inside - but all of the nubs are off of the rears and still intact in the front..

i cant seem to find the offsets, i am currently checking the e90 sites

and the widths are?

That's already a pretty low offset in the front for anything but a pretty skinny wheel.

the width is 8 and 8.5 in the rear - as you can tell by tire sizes it is an 18 inch rim on all 4 corners.

For just the wheels alone:

The fronts stick out 21mm on the outside and have 9mm more clearance on the inside, while the rears have 13mm more clearance on the inside but still out 13mm more. It'd be hard to see how it would rub much on the inside rear, unless your camber was pretty high.

offsets are far too low for the 1 (especially the front). You might be able to tuck under with some fender rolling and camber adjustment (neither of which I'd be willing to do).

Might be time to seek out an inexpensive winter wheel.

You went from an et52 8.5" to an et39 8.5" AND you went from a 245 to a 255. You're going to get rubbing with that setup even if you roll the rear fenders. Those wheels are a no go on your car unless you run a narrower tire.

When you go wider with a wheel or tire, the offsets have to go higher for it to fit.

i made an appointment with the tire shop to remount the stockers and realign the car to how it should be.

i will then post the wheels and tires (as a set) online and hope to sell them quickly .i will also be looking to get some new tires for my car meantime, probably going to keep stock wheels for the winter and use snow tires. then for summer, i may get 19s (possibly VMR 710s in gunmetal) and high performance summer tires for that set of the year.

good plan. you may want to consider sticking with 18s in NY. I hear the roads around there are terrible for very low profile tires (19" rims).
