What happened to yellow?
I really love when I see pictures of the e36 in yellow and feel the e82 has similar proportions. I would seriously consider ordering the 1er in yellow, if it were available. That prompted me to search the BMW NA website to discover that yellow is not available for any car, including M and Z vehicles. Does any *ahem* seasoned BMW enthusiast have any insight as to why yellow is no longer offered?

My guess is because they offered Phoenix Yellow in the e46 M3, and it was pretty much universally loathed.
I do like Dakar Yellow, but I don't think it would look good on our cars at all. |

I don't think Dakar looks that great on modern BMWs in the slightest bit, but that's just my take on it. Here's a Dakar e92 M3:
And an e92 coupe: |

They should do what Porsche does, and have colors to offer that cost three toes and an arm, like sample colors or rare colors only offered to the first 100 people, things like that, because people would pay to have some of these colors, such as you guys, i know i would

The more I look at the e82 and e36, the more the e92 begins to resemble the e63 to me. IMHO the e82 possesses the proportions and great attributes of the e36, I feel the chances are great that it would be far more pleasing in Dakar than an e92. But still, I would think that BMW would be able to sell yellow Z4 coupes, so why did BMW axe yellow completely? That has now prompted another question: In the U.S. market, when was yellow completely discontinued from the BMW lineup?

Yellow just doesn't look right on most modern cars. That E92 (non-M) looks hideous. Especially the pale, Dakar Yellow that looks like some sort of Mexican taxicab respray.

Dakar Yellow seems flat, and doesn't complement the surfaces of the newer designs. Somehow AW works really well, but most recent BMWs look best in darker, richer colors (SGM, BSM, etc.)

I really don't want to dig around for it, but wasn't there early promotional materials showing the 135 in yellow? I can see the photos in my head.

Sometimes how good a color looks depends on where you live. I had a friend drive up to our house in California in a yellow Rabbit years ago and thought the car looked terrible. Who would pick THAT color? Then I visited her in Santa Fe and thought the car looked pretty good.
