Anyone know what this wire is?

Anyone know what this wire is for? Seems like the sleeve got worn down over the years.

Is this something I can just wrap with something or does it need replacing?

I think it's one of the vanos wires, just the sleeve , just wrap it

Wrapping it should be fine. it's not close to the fan or belt so shouldn't be a major issue.
