NEED HELP. Is this deal worth it??

Hi all!

I currently own an e92 but with some engine issues as well as a couple of other things, I will be selling it soon.

I have had my eye on an e82 for quite some time but they are tough to find well taken care of and with low mileage while also being affordable.

Out of the blue, my neighbor told me that his family friend is trying to sell his. It is a 2011 Automatic in Grey. It has stayed in the same city its entire life, has been serviced by a single BMW dealership and for a 2011 it only has 25,000 miles on it. The original owner was a collector and along with putting next to no miles on it every year, he always installed a new set of wheels (didn't tell me what they are) and is running an Active Autowerkes plug in tune.

The kicker is he was recently given a newer BMW from a relative and is willing to sell this one for $11,000 to me. I have full maintenance records from CarFax and everything checks out. After I get a full inspection done, granted that it is good, I feel like this is a deal that is too good to pass up on.

Am I just being hopeful or is this a rare find? Thank you!

If you don't mind an auto, it's a good deal. I've seen several cars over $16k with that few miles.

Go look at nada.com and kbb.com and look at their pricing guide as a ref. I've not looked because I don't know the options on the car, but it sounds like a good deal. I purchased mine wanting the auto because the other car has a manual. Sport mode makes the car fun to drive. For the car being an '11 and only 25k miles is a rare find these days... I thought I did good buying my '13 last year with only 36k on it. You have me beat...

If it's a 135i, I would buy it in a heartbeat. You can always flip it for damn near double that if it's really pristine. It's a good deal for a 128 too, just less so.

Do you want an auto?

Seriously tho. If the car is in good condition and I'm assuming it is for the mileage it can easily be sold for $25k+

I just assumed it was a 128i. It's a good deal if so. If it's a 135i, it's a phenomenal deal! For that price, I'd buy it and do a manual transmission swap and still come out ahead.

Buy it.

I recently got my 2008 e88 135i with 46000km (28500 miles) for $A19k ($US12800).
Had full dealer service history but sadly the water pump died just after I got it so that was about another $US1k added expense to me.

It's rare to find these cars with such low KMs/miles. Just make sure to budget for water pump failures and fuel pump too

The upside is if you buy it and like it you didnt get ripped off.
The downside is if you buy it and dont like it you can sell it and you will probably lose very little money.

What is there to debate?

Good deal

but on a personal rant - with all the pricing guides on the internet (NADA, KBB, Edmunds) and all the used car websites to find comparables (cars.com, autotrader, etc) it always amazes me that people come here to have us do their research for them. Even worse, those who post AFTER they buy to ask if they got a good deal. (What if we said NO?)

In all fairness, I don't know how current or realistic their pricing is. Let's face it, we are the market for the 1 series. The market is whatever an enthusiast who likely trolls this site will pay for a 2013 slicktop 128i with M-Sport package, etc.

Case in point: I just ran a hypothetical car through KBB with and without a sunroof. With a sunroof, KBB added $200 to the value of the car. On the contrary, we know that a slicktop might add up to $1000 to the value of the car because of the rarity and desirability.

Don't get too worked up. This is an 8-year-old car. The wholesale is around $12K, and it would probably sell for around $15k at a used car lot. A dealer would send it straight to auction if it was a trade.

The mileage sounds too low, and there might be a good reason for it? After so many years, the mileage doesn't add that much to the price. Instead of expecting the forum to provide an answer, you can simply have it checked out by a dealer or independent. Even CarMax will give you a wholesale price.

Finally, forget any advice about altering the drivetrain or anything else. The expense would be prohibitively high!

Wait, so you really think it is worth $25K? You definitely have been drinking and killing brain cells!

An 11' auto is obviously DCT, gray is a sought after color. I doubt someone would spec grey with tan interior so I assume black or red. With 25k miles it's atleast 30-40k miles away from any regular scheduled maintenance. Sounds like it's owned by an older guy. So yes, 25k all day. With some cars being 08s for 9k it's hard to believe some cars still have good value.
