Dealer Says: Ipod is incompatible with your car
2010 128i Coupe
No Navi / no idrive I do have a 1/8 stereo jack... but do NOT have a USB input. Dealer said that a certain range (mine) is not compatible with the ipod connector. - A new OEM stereo cannot be installed - The Ipod connector ($400) cannot be installed "Something" in the programming of this range of cars doens't allow for upgrades. This sounds like exquisite BS, however i'm not beyond believing that they messed up a batch of ECU's either. I JUST WANNA PLAY MY IPOD IN THE CAR DAMNIT. Any thoughs or work-arounds are appreciated! |

There is a BMW Ipod adapter kit, costs around $400 and takes a few hours to install. Sounds like your dealer just doesn't want to install it. I am presuming that you want to control the ipod with the radio and steering wheel controls? Since you can just play a playlist and plug into the aux port, that would work fine already.
I had the ipod kit added to my MINI and it came in the 128i with the value package. I like it, worth the cash to get it working. |

Not that the USB connection wasn't available... the dealer said they "couldn't" install it because this batch of 1's wasn't compatible with it.
I'm calling BS but wanted to see what the forum said... interesting thought on the retrofit however. Hmm, it's gonna be that or a non-OEM head unit. thoughts ? |

According to BMW's website, there is an iPod adapter that you can retrofit (part # 65110439429) into a '10 128i coupe. This is the same adapter I had installed in my car and it works great. It's a MOST interface so it gets connected to the car's fiber optic network. The module mounts behind the glovebox and the iPod cord is routed to the glovebox. I have the install instructions somewhere and I think BMW quote 1.5 hours for install and coding. My dealer only charged me for 1.5 hours, despite it taking them almost a full day for the install.

The dealer is somehow correct... certain MY2010 and MY2011 OEM HU are incapable of any iPod adapter or even custom coding to other outputs (analog low level or MOST digital). They even have to be replaced if Sirius is to be retrofitted. It seems to me that this was an intentional batch of very cheap radios as part of the deep decontenting that BMW did on both the 1- and the 3-Series between 09/09 and 08/10 production. |

Okay, Dice electronics doesn't make anything for the 2010 model year. Desion audio stops compatibility at 2009.
Is there anything to get Ipod in the car besides the stupid 1/8 jack ? I might also add that the dealer says they CANNOT install the retrofit kit: Part# 65110439429 So i'm out... i got nothin... hopefully the forum does ! ! ! |

Sorry I don't have any information for you, but I thank my lucky stars I waited to find a car with all the options in it I wanted before I pulled the trigger. Good luck, OP.
