The weekend cruise thread

Does one of these topics exist yet???

If not, how about a place to talk about the day trips, adventures, missions and the like with our cars?

(If you dont like the topic, or the mods dont like it, feel free to delete it)

- Post pics, maps etc of your drives etc....
- Allows us to share ideas, trips and give tips.

I'll start. I just came home from doing this at the last minute. I loved it, the weather was fantastic, and the traffic was near nothing considering it was a long weekend. My first trip up this way as I've only moved up from VIC a few weeks ago.

Finally got a chance to drive the car like it was meant to be driven!

Yep this one is an awesome drive! Putty rd all the way up to singleton then an easy cruise back down the M1 and maybe back onto the old pacific hwy at Mooney Mooney for the final leg back into hornsby.

Did the whole drive on the last long weekend (can't remember which one i think it was Anzac day) and there wasn't a single HWP car all the way up Putty rd to singleton. Coming back on the M1 though there was a car every 20 minutes haha

When you get to Singleton there is another magic spot called lake st clair. It's about 30 mins out of singleton (say a 45 min round trip) with smooth flowing high speed bends by memory that is 100 km/h (back in the good ol days on my bike some guys would be doing ermm double those speeds..) and the lake looks really great on a mostly isolated unpoliced road.

Also before you get to singleton coming from the putty rd there is a great drive through to broke through the vineyards. Lots of high speed windy scenic roads perfect for an italian tuneup

Fingers crossed I get to drive my secret road in the next few weeks... it's a whole day to do it (2-3hrs to get to the start, 3 hr drive, and then 2 to head home). I will share it with after I have done it.

I've done it twice since I discovered it, and both times it has been been quiet. I think I had 2 cars pass me in 2 hours last time I did it. This allows me to let the car go off the leash a bit safe from harm.

South?

Go through The Royal National Park past Wollongong to Albion Park, Then right and head up Macquarie Pass, right again through to Mittagong and back down the M5 to Sydney.

Kangaroo valley and Fitzroy Falls is another good, albeit long detour.

haha travelled almost every great Sydney Drive

So did you get a chance to do this drive? Care to share?

on my old Honda forum there was a team that planned a cruise every 3-4 months. It was great, co-ordinated well and worked.

Maybe we should have something like that here?

Admins???

There's way more activity on the e90post Australian forum. We have cruises organised every few months, meetups more often.

Mostly Melbourne events though but there's plenty of Sydney guys there too.

today's run

I did a run to Mt Panorama and back today... the weather is better outside of Sydney.

2 x Laps of the track then headed home.

Don't trust the google distance... I have moved the worm around, and it's double over itself.

Next time you head west, duck off the Great Western Hwy at the servo just before Lithgow and head towards Lake Lyell. There's a 25km stretch of deserted road which is just magical.

https://goo.gl/maps/iL1rQ9oneJy

From there you can turn around and head back or take one of the roads towards Oberon/Bathurst.

Lol yeh, I've only discovered them in the last few years. Now that cops trawl OPH, Natio and most other well known roads every weekend these days, it's now a challenge to find somewhere you can drive a) fast but within the contextual limits and b) with a decent speed limit!

My write-up of our last drive out west: http://autofocus.net.au/af-drive-day-060316/

For a much longer run, head towards Goulburn from east of Oberon/west of Jenolan Caves via Taralga on Shooters Hill Road. Good, fast, open country road with occasional patches of twisty stuff and barely any traffic 8)

It's been a while, but I live a busy life.

Firstly, the car went home to Melbourne for a couple of weeks. I pulled this off on a day trip just to get out of the house, and I took the Car to sea with me (Portsea Ferry of course)

Last weekend I went north, stopping by the Gosford Car museum and drooling. Weather was great, traffic on the M1 was not.

by all means, I want to see others put up their travels. Surely I am not the only one that drives their car for day trips?

This is a nice long run, heading west. Long, high-speed turns and little to no traffic from Jenolan all the way to Goulburn.

https://goo.gl/maps/RvE6xBErjCv

On the way home on the M31 there's always the option to turn off at Sutton Forest on the Illawarra Hwy towards Macquarie Pass and drive back to Sydney on the coastal route.
