I've been looking at these and called my local Porsche dealer last week here in AZ and was told the same thing. Also, the cars are always fully options which i find rather annoying - especially on a Porsche.

I guess you can just order one "Base" and that would honestly be sufficient. Porsche options are ridiculously overpriced!

The problem is you can't get an allocation, unless you have an "in" or are a very frequent Porsche customer.

Amazing when a full MSRP car plus "only" 20k ADM is considered a great deal.

The other amazing thing is during the 991 generation the last 5 years....
GT cars are not that rare. Here are some model breakdowns that I saw on Rennlist. GT cars GT3, GT2 RS, GT3 RS, and Turbo models (combined) outnumber sales of a base Carrera during the last 5 years, even with ADM and exclusivity of allocations.

911 50th Anniversary Edition (2014) - 643
911 Carrera - 7,496
911 Carrera 4 - 849
911 Carrera BE (2016) - 66 + 276 = 342
911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet - 679
911 Carrera 4 GTS - 751
911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet - 333
911 Carrera 4S - 5,278
911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet - 3,993
911 Carrera Cabriolet - 4,203 + 1073 (2012 builds) = 5,276
911 Carrera Cabriolet BE (2016) - 178
911 Carrera GTS - 2,326
911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet - 960
911 Carrera S - 5,547
911 Carrera S Cabriolet - 4,623 + 1891 (2012 builds) = 6,514
911 Carrera T - 620
911 GT2 RS - 655
911 GT3 - 4,542
911 GT3 RS - 2,183
911 R (2016) - 213
911 Targa 4 - 497
911 Targa 4 GTS - 1,345
911 Targa 4S - 2,892
911 Turbo - 1,966 (accounts for 16 997 built in 2013)
911 Turbo Cabriolet - 1,127 (accounts for 33 997 built in 2013)
911 Turbo S - 4,426 (accounts for 125 997 built in 2013)
911 Turbo S Cabriolet - 2,215 (accounts for 87 997 built in 2013)
911 Turbo S Exclusive - 118

That's amazing! Can that be right?

Well, they are still super popular and hard to get tho!

The Porsche dealership on Saturday was like a freaking mall. So many people!

I just don't ever see me dropping $50k on a market premium? I dunno, just seems wrong! These dealerships are really taking to the enthusiast with this shit. Playing to many games. Build loyalty instead!

for some people cars are just a social status item...they park them in the garage and brag to their friends about them, or post photos on instagram/facebook, or they want to feel they own something special.

the people actually into cars and driving----DRIVE their cars a lot and buy them for their own inner enjoyment.

Very few Porsche buyers are actually in that 2nd category, unfortunately....it's become the ultimate car for posers, IMO.

The reason for this is simply because of how expensive they are. The average person/family can not afford these cars......maybe when your 55+ years old and are settled.

And those that can....well, like you said, many of them purchase as a status symbol.

When the Cayman first came out I was impressed with Porsche. They put a car out there that, with a little cash mgmt, a normal person/family could afford,.....well, that didn't last very long tho 🤣

Look, they are sweet and I'll continue to lust after one....but, will be a while before I can pull the trigger on one. Have 3 kids to put through college....I guess they are my Porsche for now!

mine just hit 2004 miles on my way to Lowes to get 3/4 pvc pipe...10ft cut in half to fit inside the gt3 lol...any excuse to take it out on the streets, break in miles is 2k, been gradually putting it up the rev range.

This baby is not leaving my kungfu grip, definitely not holding it for the money, that's pretty stupid, but I can't say no to penis extension tax.

I'm on the list for a GT4 - dealer called me a few weeks ago and told me a GT3 came available and I could have it at MSRP Passed because only way I'll take delivery is ED in the summer. There are enough of them out there - shouldn't be paying more than MSRP. 50k ADM is pathetic. GT3RS and GT2RS don't apply.

Its not necessarily posers. Many of those low mileage cars are owned by true enthusiasts but they have many cars. I drive my 911 less than I thought because there are others in the rotation.

As to dealer markups, I don't get the outrage. Capitalism. Why shouldn't the dealer sell for more if they can. If they don't, the next guy will. Don't like it, move along. For my 1M I didn't see it worth paying over msrp and I had time to call around for msrp allocation and wait. For my truck, I was in a hurry so a few over for in stock optioned how I wanted it didn't matter much to me.
