UPDATED: 330 with H&R Race Springs

Hi everyone,

I'm new here. Picked up my 330 last Friday and knew that I wasn't going to keep her stock for too long.

She had the Sport Package already but I wanted to drop her more. After reviewing all the various spring/suspension posts (thank you BTW) I decided on the H&R setup. Faced with the choice of "Sport" or "Race" I opted to go for the "Race" version. According to H&R the "Race" version drops the car 2" in the front and 1.5" in the rear vs. 1.3" and 1.2" for the "Sport" version. Part Number: 50490-88

Here are a couple nighttime pics. I'll get daylight shots over the weekend when I clean her up more.

Lastly I ordered some new "footgear"

Thanks to this board I'm able to share my enjoyment of the 3 with other enthusiasts!

Thanks Danny! I knew I was taking a "risk" with the sports. My other car, a Honda S2000, sits on coilovers and I'm used to driving around bumps and entering driveways at a 45 degree angle as a necessary evil/precaution. I'll be doing the same with the 330.

My previous bb6 h22a was dumped so I know what you mean with the crazy angles! That's one thing I don't miss with the 330i! Plus now I'm a family man so I need the car to be...well a car.

Thanks lost8found. I was already uploading pictures on my picture site so I figured I'd update the garage as well.

Car and the drop look great in your photos mava. I had an s2000 on coilovers too, pretty much slammed and even without the front lip I was scraping all over

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but just wanted to share pic of my former s2000 for nostalgia sake, what other mods have you done to your s2k?

Jason I've SEEN your car! I remember you posting pics of your new P-car (that replaced the S) on s2ki.com right? Here are a few of my mods.

Exterior Mods: // OEM Front & Rear Spoilers // 3M Clear Bra Protection // Rick's Clear Sidemarkers
Engine Mods: // K&N Typhoon CAI // Optima Yellow
Wheels Tires: // Work Meister S2R 18" // Toyo Proxes T1-S // Tein Flex Coilovers
Stereo Mods: // JLAudio W6v2, 500/5 // MBQuart Premium // Kenwood Excelon KDC-X889 // Kenwood iPod Adapter // Dynamat Xtreme

My E90 is my "family" car when I have my kids. My S is my daily driver you can say but the E90 is competing quite nicely for seat time. Love your S and P-Car BTW!

Yep that was me (jwocky). You have a great memory, that was almost a year ago. I see we have similar taste in cars. I love the new s2000's, I actually bought the new bumper to retrofit onto my car at the time, but ended up not installing it when I sold the car. Those Work wheels are definitely one of the hottest wheels for the s2k!

Glad to have you on the forum and thanks for the compliment.

There are some nice lowered cars being shown in this thread. Thanks for showing pics of the race springs, I think it's the first pics I've seen of a car lowered on these. The other ones were all sport springs.

mava, is there a very noticeable difference in ride quality? Can you tell it's much more harsh and bumpy when you drive it on the road?

One of my nurse friends was driving a lowered Honda Accord when she entered Lomita Blvd during the two weeks it took them to resurface the pavement prior to laying down new blacktop. She hit one of the sewer manhole ledges and it brought her car to an abrupt stop, broke her tranny, cracked her windshield, blew her front airbags, and broke her eyeglasses. Aren't you a little concerned about potholes and occasional road surprises?

Too low for my taste. I think dropped cars look silly.

Thanks coco. Love your avitar! "I pity the fool... !" I don't drive the car everyday so I said what the hell... just get race springs and drop it like it's hot.

No it was purchased and lowered by a wheel and tire place that I've used for my other cars: F1 Motorsport in the San Fernando Valley (North Hollywood). Really nice people to deal with. They provide products for every make and model out there. When I dropped off my car yesterday they had a couple Ferrari's, Porsche's and imports sitting in their parking structure. Gotta love that variety!

Am I concerned? Not really ksfrogman. But then again my S is slammed even more and I definately scrape w/out intending to, like Jason's mentioned... My E90 is not my daily driver. I've driven my S in environments similiar to your friend in the Accord. I check my tire pressure at least once/week, am a creature of habit so I'll drive a longer "safer" route bypassing known road imperfections like the one mentioned above if I can. Thus far, knock on wood, everything is

Others have PM'ed me about the ride, handling characteristics since performing this mod. I only took delivery last night and haven't had time to drive her in the canyons and get a feel for the ride however I'll share the following initial observations for now:

* Re: noise, rattles, etc: No problems at all. BMW vault-like quality is preserved.

* Re: rubbing: Using the same practices approaching curbs as my S I haven't rubbed/scraped the front (Don't intend to either because the car sit higher than my S2K)

*** I'll still continue to drive her gently until 1,250 miles. I will also perform an alignment after 3 weeks to give the suspension/springs an opportunity to settle. Then I'll come back and give y'all better driving impressions.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

It's never ending... the art that is modding. I'll give it some time to see how it settles and looks after alignment.

HRC I NEED to see your rims when you get them! The Volk LE37's were on my short list for my S. That's an extrememely LIGHT wheel. I think it'll look great on the E90.

In fact I'm going to the LA Autoshow this weekend just to see what styles the tuners out there have come up with for the E90.
