USB dash location

Where does the under armrest USB socket terminate? If I install an aftermarket head unit with rear USB, can I connect that to the existing USB or would I need to run a whole new cable to the armrest?

Thats depending on your car configuration, so it can never be said 100% for sure.
If you have only Radio-Professional without handsfree at the center console the cable likely goes straight from the Radio to the USB socket.
If you have a NAV System or Handsfree then it normally first does go to a USB-Hub under the driver seat and then back to the TCU/MULF/COMBOX in the Trunk.

so you need to check by yourself if there is a ECU in the trunk.

there are also Adaptors available to convert USB to FAKRA to connect the existing cable to it.
Or you route a new USB-Fakra cable to the connector, which are also available.

In the US without BT or NAV it goes to a MULF2 box in the trunk. At least on my 2011.
