Eurobox refusing to fit

I'm getting close to throwing this car out the window. Just got a eurobox intake and it is refusing to stay connected to the front inlet. I can try it in but then when I go to attach the top it pops off. It's beyond frustrating and I don't know what I'm doing wrong... any advice?

Mine is the exact same way, particularly with the flex hose. I just gave up trying to get it through that one slot. I do have a CEL that has to do w the intake due to this but it’s not likely due to the box but likely my silicone elbow tube.

Good luck w trying to remedy it. I mean that.

I was able to fix it in a bit of a sketchy way. I hit it with a heat gun for a bit and pulled the accordion piece out a bit so it reached more easily. Looks to be fitting well now.

Am I correct in saying that the airbox is sitting a little too low? (looks that way from the photos)

If that's the case - have you got the little rubber mount that sits under the airbox?

Interesting. It does seem to be low and that would explain the issue. I don't think I have that

That’s on the stock air box and can move over

I had similar problems with my euro box when fitting it initially. It's a bit tricky and a pita.

Make sure you have the top of the filter box screwed on before attaching to the accordion snorkel. Mine at least seems to have a bit of plastic that will prevent or otherwise make putting it on after the box is in position difficult.

Until you get the box sitting in the right position with the indent sitting on the rubber nub below the box nothing will fit nicely and everything will seem like there tension.

Do you have the silicone boot from the air filter box to the IM?

My suggestion is remove the snorkel first, and then attach the tube from the IM to the box but don't snug it down. This is hard to visualize but lift the air filter box and then try to move its bottom part backward and to the right. With the snorkel removed you can see the bottom a better. When you finally get the box into the correct position it will make sense and feel secure and you can tell it's sitting on the rubber nub. There's a video of how to take the snorkel in and out on YouTube I found the best way is when you have the box in position, to attach the snorkel to the box and then try and get the the right inlet side into position by pulling it in at an angle. I tried to find the video I had seen but couldn't find it. You can get an idea of it from the below video but obviously it's an e9x and different air box so there's a lot more room.

But that's sort of the angle of attack it needs to come in.

If you still need help I can take a video.

Let me know.

Mildly annoyed but happy to say this little rubber piece solved all the problem haha, sitting and sealing great now.

I think many people lose that half-sphere rubber nub when swapping air filters. Mine was missing too . . .

I actually glued mine to the stud in the engine bay using some contact adhesive before I fit the GruppeM intake. I think the rubber nub gets wet which I guess means it starts to perish and sticks to the airbox when you remove it...nub falls off before you get the airbox out. Most people don't notice so drive without it...

I had problems with my stock airbox but surprisingly with the euro box it fits even better than stock. Having the rubber mount sitting on the metal piece properly is key

LMAO. I chased the airbox sag for half a decade and didn't realize that I was missing the rubber mount until this thread.. I ended up using gorilla tape to secure the airbox to the front snorkel.

Here is the part number: 13717539903

Also, sorry guys, but the BMW went to a new home at 151k miles.
I've now moved on to a ND miata.

If I could have found a mint condition 128i or even an LCI 328i, I was going to pick up another one, but they've become so rare now. It's such a shame that this era of BMW is coming to an end to reasonably daily. The 128i will always have a very special place in my heart. I'll continue checking in here.

Sorry to derail.
