Idle funky out of nowhere. No codes.

Hey all,

Got an 11 135i, 70k. No mods. Out of nowhere, when i start, the idle will go up and down all the way up to over 1k. After 20 seconds, it settles down, but i feel it still runs higher than normal in stop and go driving. Just feels off.

But no codes are being thrown. Is this vanos? Coils? Plugs? Hpfp? Vacuum leak? Wouldn't there be some accompanying codes? How would i narrow it down?

Thanks

So I’m not sure if sparks and plugs would impact idle, but there could be a vacuum leak some where. Typically you’ll see higher idle when there’s more load on the engine, I.e A/C going on, maybe you’re at full lock and the power steering pump is working hard. After warm up, my car usually sits around 700 rpm?

Since there’s no cutting in and out it’s not fuel related, or at least not severe enough to cause bigger issues like codes being thrown.

I’d try and do a leak down test to see if maybe there are vacuum leaks somewhere in the system

Could be your temperature? Does this happen when the cars cold as well or just when it’s been run for a while?
