cracked driver's side mirror

Here's a new one for you guys... My 135i was frosted over the other day, and while I was warming it up with the defroster on, I hear a pop and this is what I see... Taking it in on tuesday... Anyone else have mirror issues??

This happened to me november of last year. Same thing. First cold day, turn the defroster on, small pop.

The funny thing is my mirror was cracked in the same fashion as yours, the sideways "L".

Mine was replaced under warrenty.

Just goes to show, if theres an issue with the 135i, mine has had it!

The second day I owned the car I found my mirror cracked on the passenger side. Last month my driver's side cracked. Don't know what the issue is but I'm surprised more people haven't seen it. The dealership didn't want to fix the first one. It was literally the next morning and they wanted me to fork over 500 bucks! Ridiculous.

Both sides, same day

Took my 135 in for the transmission software upgrade and an oil change today. It's been cold and snowing here, but they had the car in the heated garage all day (six hours to do the damned sw upgrade! WTF?!). They washed the car and parked it outside.

I got in, started it up, checked the mirrors…and both are cracked. Passenger side is much worse, but both sides are toast. Naturally they have to order the parts, so I'm going back again next week when they come in.

I don't know what possessed me to think that my 1er would be free of these annoying little BMW quirks. I'll add this to the list with my trunk light breaking, too. It's a good thing I love driving this car so much.

How cold is it where you people are? My 1er is parked outside during the day in about -5C. Hopefully I won't have this same problem.

This is common on the 1er and the 3er.

Hopefully the new mirrors will not have the same issue.

I'm in Michigan. Yesterday it was about -5C outside. I'm not sure if it was more because of a rapid temp change or that these mirrors just do this. My service advisor at least appeared to be surprised.

I had this happen about three hours after I took delivery of the car for ED in Germany last november. Passenger side mirror cracked the same way as yours. Manufacturing defect when the mirrors heat up some will crack. Get it replaced under warranty.
