You probably want to disappear for a week or so as well when those east coasters start getting their cars.

Aside from waiting 2 weeks for my car to go the whole 40 miles from port to my dealer, I nearly found myself yelling at my computer when I was tracking our boat at the Panama Canal as it took it 3 days to just go in! Was circling just outside, and then docked FURTHER away one night. Was like it had canal phobia or watching someone who is afraid of heights get close to the ledge of a tall building, then run away and slowly come back and try again.

You'll be better once you finally get confirmation that you're on a boat. I was in the same boat as you (no pun intended) trying to sell my car and was nerve-racking. Sold my car a week before I thought I was getting the car, but ultimately had to drive a rental hyundai accent for 3 weeks, shelling out hundreds of dollars. I should have asked for a loaner perhaps.

Yeah my monthly payment on the 328 is not bad so its better for me to sell it later rather then spend hundreds on a rental for weeks.

This is the hellish part but will all be worth it in the end.
My expectations were definitely set to this time period. And so far it seems like it will come right at the 2.5 months mark. We'll see! PDC delivery better not push me back.

But I bet she responds by saying, "good news, you're on a boat" and you ended up making that 8/31 one.
Got a reply, apparently they are getting in touch with their people at the port to find out why my car has sat for so long. Not the "oh it left on the 31st" email I was hoping for though...

The weirdest thing nobody can figure out though is, what do they do with the normal 135i exhaust that seems to come on the car that they take right off at the port and discard. Must be a huge pile of black chrome-tipped 135 exhausts somewhere from all these darn 135is's.
I wonder if the exterior dimensions of the base exhaust are similar to those of the Performance Exhaust. The PE may show up protected from shipping damage in a 'shadow box' type of container... perhaps the port just drops the base exhaust into the PE shipping container and sends it back to the factory along with other parts used for the shipping/transportation process. I've seen it work this way in other manufacturing industries.

New update - I should be getting on a boat on Friday, allegedly. I'll have another email on Friday with more information.

So that's the Sept. 7th boat we estimated as worst case scenario, huh? Probably loads 6th-7th but remember they're also like 12 hours ahead of us, something like that. That better be your boat.

Actually it looks like I misread the email, here's the exact text:

"Just got word from the port here in Cali and he said there is a vessel loading that it is supposed to get on. He told me to check the status on Friday and to contact him if its not on that boat."

To me that means "there is a boat loading now but we'll know by friday for sure".

You can also use the marine traffic to see what boats are in port to see if you can figure out where they're going. Take the Columbia Highway for example. There are only like 3 spots on the docks here where they load BMWs/Minis. Perhaps that will help.

Thanks to my obsessiveness (and good luck), we were able to use these to snag a ton of screenshots of our boat pulling in, loading, and pulling out back in March. If you get bored and want to see documented madness of our journey, which I'm told by others was one of the more entertaining threads on here, check it out:

Ah, yes.... I'd almost forgotten how much fun we had on that boat! Was it really 5 months ago?!

Post #88 and what followed, especially, will live on in infamy in 1addicts lore.

I don't even have to look (plus I'm lazy and you did not provide a page # or link), but I'm guessing that's my like 2 hour freakout after I believed you that our boat was turning around and heading back to Germany.

Hey, any explanation would have been believable as to why our boat refused to go into the panama canal and docked even FURTHER out that night.

And yep, page 4, post 88:

RIGHT you are. And the very calm, unemotional response in post 89 since you weren't already on edge about the circling ship:

And no amount of trying could convince you that I never expected you to believe my EGR valve story.... Lots of fun. Well, for you the laughs came after a couple of bricks, I guess. We eventually brought you around and kept you from the bottle and a therapist that night.

Reading that thread now, it is a laugh!

What kind of wait times did any of you see once at the port to install all the "is" goodies?

Of the 3 IS's we had on board, we ranged from the lowest - Kouper (I think 7 days?) from docking until ready for pickup at the dealer, then it was exactly 2 weeks for me, and poor Randy out in Arizona took maybe 3+ weeks? Should be the end of the thread on him cause we couldn't stop til we got all the IS's home. If you want to see frustration, you should have seen him and his dealer on the backside. I'd say it's 10x worse than what you're dealing with getting on a boat. Nobody knew where the car was, they kept telling him it was on a truck, then it wasn't, and he almost got another car. He may have had the worst IS-related delay story.

Edit - So, if and when your sales person says it'll be 3-4 days from port to the dealer, do not believe them. My dealer told me that and I said, no it won't, it's an IS, should be at least a week. So, don't fall into that trap or you will only be further disappointed.

Awesome, thanks for the info, I'll try not to get too riled up if it is less than 2 weeks.

My order went into production on the 27th, with the estimated completion time of today (9/4). I just got an email today from the dealership saying that my car was done and it was sitting at port waiting for a boat.

I'm obviously happy that its done and waiting for a boat, but I'm a bit weary that they may have mistaken someone else's order for mine. Calling the 800 number says its being assembled, and the OC shows 'In Production'.

It just seems that the whole process (production, assembly, transport to boat) has taken less than a week. Maybe my car's production started before the Aug shutdown and it was just waiting for assembly when they got back?

Anyone else have a similar experience?

that does sound VERY fast. for example i placed my order on July 23rd. Production started August 4th and ended on the 12th. The car then sat at the port til the last week of August and is now on a ship.

yours is going so fast maybe you'll get the car by this weekend!! haha....or NOT

One can dream right?

I'll call the 800 number on Friday and see if it says production complete. Maybe then I'll believe the info more.

when you call the number, you can also speak to a live representative who will have more updated information than the recorded message. I forgot how i got them, but i THINK i just kept pressing 0. lol

Just called the 800 number, and they said "released to the carrier, awaiting transport to the port of exit". I'm guessing that means waiting for the train, which makes a lot more sense than already at the port.

Hell yes. I emailed my CA to get the VIN and any shipping info so we can track the boat. Might need a new thread for this - not that it could possibly be any more fun than Greg & Co.'s Toreador thread
