Of course, **for the record, and bmw usa snitches**, I only use bmw approved oil in my own car.

And Mobil 1 0W40 is BMW approved.

Very interesting information! Surprised then that the oil is not subject to the trade embargo!

That's good to hear. The owner's manual does say 5W40 oil is OK but doesn't specifically mention mobil 1 (that I noticed). I like mobil turbo diesel truck 5W40 because some specs are better than 0W40, such as shear rating.

Are you saying you took your own oil to the dealership and expected them to use it for the oil change?

BTW, If I changed my own oil I would not mention it at the dealership. For the free oil change.. let them put their own stuff in, then go back to using what you like at the next change interval.

Yes that's exactly what I do. Here in Germany there is no free maintenance so you have to pay for all of your services. Also I do it that way so the dealer can check my car out while they have it maybe catch a problem/TB early. It also builds a relationship with the dealer I think. Most of the guys I work with do the same thing maybe not as often though. How can BMW void your warranty if you're using an oil that meets or exceeds the industry standards? I've used Mobile 1 on every BMW/car I have owned.:roundel:

My service tech told me people bring in there own oil all the time. Some people buy oil in 5 and 10 gallon containers to save money. He has no problem with it.
