Navigation !!!
I originally did not want navigation, and, in addition, having to deal with that often maligned I-drive. However, I ordered it! The deciding factor: I didn't want that mandatory pop-up compartment on my dash to be a change holder. If I could have gotten a smooth dash, minus the pop-up, I wouldn't have ordered Nav! (stupid, huh...) Oh well, what the hell is another couple of grand; who knows, I might actually get to like the Nav / I drive combo.....

I'm betting he lives with his mother. (Ma)
Btw, I have never seen any production 1er coupe that has the dash storage. That seems to be limited to the hatchbacks. |

I'm sure BMW did the smooth dash move to prevent people from installing their own Navi.

I actually think it could be a DOT or safety reason.
To the OP: Weren't you making other changes to your order today? Still time to remove Navi then. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...20&postcount=4 |

Not really, other than "Helga's" voice is pretty sexy, and you get to dream of hot Frauleins making Saurbraten and Semmelknoedel for you in a Dirndl dress. I have nav in my e90, and am skipping it on the e82.

There are additional features. I'm not an expert (don't have iDrive). But on other BMW's these include RTTI, voice recognition, stopwatch, memo, and better 6FL interface. Also PDC has graphical display.

Jack, just about all of those that are non-Nav centric (RTTI is obviously nav related) are doable withou Nav, including Voice Control. The US rear PDC, does have a nice display, but if you're backing up, you won't be looking at the display anyway. You'd be listening to the increasing beeps, and looking out the back window.
Stopwatch is one thing I can think of on the Nav, not on the non-nav, but I have it and never used it in 3 years yet. |

If you go to the UK bmw site and build a 135i coupe you will see it shows the dash storage in the interior view. Their configurator could certainly be wrong but it's there. i don't remember seeing a real world picture of one recently though.

Interesting that the configurator has that. I've seen pics of Euro cars without an iDrive knob, and there's no dashboard bin up front.

nitramluap went to the trouble of posting a comprehensive gallery of all the iDrive screens from his Australian 120d. It won't be precisely the same for the US, but this should leave very little to the imagination.

ARE YOU SURE???
Two reps from different dealerships ( One in NH, the other in MA) told me that the bin would be on the dash regardless of whether I got Nav or not.... They told me I could put change in it, or something.....
Even if all of you are right, I am not going to change it now. So, is Nav / I-Drive a good thing? Or, will I really be pissed off...... |

They are wrong, wrong, wrong. There's no bin on the dash (that looks like the flip up nav screen) on the non-nav cars. You get a smooth dash without nav.

Well I drove a 123d coupe at my local military sales dealership (on loan from the German side because they won't let the 135 off the sales floor) and it did indeed have the storage bin. I think this is an option for the European markets.

Yes: To NAV or not to NAV
Well put...
I need feedback from all of you who are experienced with Nav / I-drive...ASAP...Because I still have time to dump it! Is it worthy? Or, just an expensive waste.... |
