1m european light switch

Hey!

I'm looking into ordering the euro switch, this may be a dumb question but do our 1m's have fog lights?

thanks

Nope. No fog lights on a 1M.

Why are you considering a euro light switch?

You can hack the stock one to activate rear fogs rather than buy a euro spec one ...

I concur, and it was no more difficult than swapping for the Euro switch.

All is wired and even the bulb is present on NA 1Ms. Just remove 4 tiny latches underneath the blank space (that is in fact a factory disabled switch) and you're all set. If you need the fog light icon to be on the switch button, go for the euro switch.

I just installed a euro switch

rear fogs enabled, as indicated by the yellow fog light indicator
what does the green fog light indicator mean for the 1M?

That is for front fogs, which you don't have.

Is the dial to raise/lower the headlights? Does it work?

I wasn't too sure about the dial either, I will test it this evening and report back.

Isn't the dial for cars w/o auto load leveling lights (which I think are required w/HID for the U.S. market)?

This is the "correct" euro switch

the dial appears to do nothing as well

@E30 Racer that would make sense, all the other buttons on the switch I have appear to do nothing on the 1M

Yes, I also believe so. In EU market auto-load leveling is also required for HiD lights.

In our HID equipped E82s, the height servos in the headlights are controlled by a level-sensor located near the front axle, so the dail is simply not operational. In halogen-light equipped (EU/ROW) 1Ms, these servos could be connected to the dial for manual control.

Yep, that is the correct switch for a US spec 1M or a 1M with Xenons. The euro switch does not have headlight height adjustment for the Xenon lights. Its done via the suspension sensors automatically.

The above headlight switch pictured - is for a 125i(128i) or 118d/120d/120i with halogen headlights AND front fogs and rear fogs. On halogen equipped cars the height is adjusted manually.

Instead of the intended front fog light, one could now secretly switch on-off a radar detector, or like b33g33, you might be looking to install rocket launcher with a 'hidden' launch button

Here's how you can connect common electrical gadgets to the currently non-functional front-fog-light switch:

Once you confirm that the headlight switch has a yellow/white-stripe wire connected at pin7 (this is a low current drive signal, see diagram), You can now connect and switch ~50W gadgets to either or both pin 3 and 37 of the FRM module (located at your utmost left toe while pushing the clutch).

PS (WDS actually shows vertical aim - level sensors both at the front and rear axles)

eeghie thank you for this!

I was thinking the same thing...nothing wrong with having an open switch to connect something secret to, especially with the oem look
