Upgrading Manual Trans/Diff Fluid
Has anyone has success switching the OE fluid out for redline or royal purple on the 135i manual transmission? I did it on my last 540 and it was a night and day difference. If so what fluids are recommended, especially weight wise.

I have never changed the diff/manual fluid yet from the BMW grade fluid. Wondering about this also. Approaching 40k on a 2008

I'm switching both out next week for redline oils.

I changed mine out for Redline fluids (trans + diff) about 22k miles ago. I will change it again soon. No issues, but right now it does feel a touch 'notchy' when cold.

Ive put redline D6 into my manual trans and redline gear oil into the diff. Gear shifting was improved but over time I forgot how the oem fluid was like.
If I would do it again, I would get the D4 fluid for the trans. Just because I think the trans likes a slightly thicker oil. |

If the D6 fluid seems to have thin viscosity, do you think the D4 fluid offers enough protection for someone who tracks his car?
Im getting ready to install M3 tranmission mounts on my 135i this week-end, to help with sloppy shifts under load. Car has 54,000Kms (33,000Miles). While Im under there, would be perfect timing for a manual transmission fluid change. I want the best protection, and smoothest shifting possible, hot or cold, track or street. Maybe all this criteria this is impossible to be covered by one type of fluid. Thinking about these: Pentonsin MTF-LT-5 Redline D4-ATF Redline MTL

Quick update on this. A couple of months ago, I decided to go with D4-ATF in my manual transmission, as per application guide on Redline site. Couldn't be happier with the results. Smooth and easier shifts, whether the outside temperature is hot (on the track) or cold (even during Canadian Winters).

Good to hear the D4ATF holds up well in the cold! I'm running it myself but we don't see much below freezing down here.
