Anyone have Koni Yellows?
Just got some Yellows, just wondering what everyone has their setting on?

The rear's can be made to be externally adjustable. I think the Dinan's come that way already.

I'd be interested to hear people's comments as well; I just pulled the trigger on a set from HPA.
John, if no one answers, you could probably give Harold a call and ask what to start with for the rears at least. CPT, what needs to be done to make them externally adjustable? ianc |

the fronts will be externally adjustable, not sure how easy though. the rear requires way too much work, thats why I want to know some common settings to dial in so I dont have to pay double for the back....

I just got these yesterday although I have not installed them yet. The fronts are easy to adjust by means of a small plastic wheel which slots onto a rod at the top of the strut. The rears need to be compressed, then the shock rod turned in relation to the body. Looks like there is 720 deg. of rotation for both fronts and rears.
Just need someone to chime in with a good starting point for the rears. Full soft maybe? Why don't you do yours first John, then I can go to school on you? I will be running the Eibachs though, which I believe may be a bit softer than the H&R's? Not sure... ianc |

I'm happy with 1/4 from full soft both front and rear. I've tried stiffer settings which were too harsh for everyday driving. FYI - even on full soft, the yellows are substantially stiffer than stock. Btw, I initially installed the yellows with Eibach springs but found that combo way too stiff and the drop was too low for my taste. I'm now running the yellows with stock springs, which I prefer by a wide margin. I'm thinking about adding a stiffer sway bar to reduce the body roll, but even without the sway, the body roll is less than it was with the stock suspension.
Hope that helps. |

I'm on H&R sport so my settings will be dramatically different as they are way stiffer springs than stock and eibach.

Even with the stock springs, the yellows do control the wallow and body roll much better than stock. |

I ran Koni Yellow's on my Cooper S on the "medium" setting....loved 'em....would assume same would be true for a nice street setup for the 1.

I just finished installing last week and like them quite a bit paired with the Eibachs. What is the best setting? Depends on a lot of things...
The Sports have a total of 720 deg of adjustability from full soft to full firm. My setup is the stock Bridgestone RFT's, Eibach Prokit and the E93 front swaybar, along with the M3 front tension rods and wishbones. I have my rears set 1/2 turn (180 deg) up from full soft and the fronts set at one full turn (360 deg) up from full soft, or midway between full soft and full hard. For me, this is working great. I could even go a little stiffer on the rears, but they are a pain to change, and everyone had me worried about how harsh the ride quality was with the RFT's, so I went a little conservative on them. On the flip side, I'm coming from an '87 Carrera with 22 and 29 mm torsion bars which was quite stiff, so I'm rather used to it. In addition, the roads in northern CA are generally quite good since we don't have frost heaves. When I switch out the RFT's in a year or two, I will probably go stiffer both front and rear, but for now it's fine. HTH, ianc |

Dinan uses Koni Yellows in their suspension system for the 1. They are "custom valved" so it may not be a perfect comparison, but Dinan ships them on their recomended setting of +1.5 turns from the softest setting. I tighten the fronts a bit when on the track, but they feel great to me on the street. The dampening is WAY better than stock.

Not wheel/tire specific for Dinan, although Dinan tuned their suspension using stock wheels and non-runflat, summer tires.

What is everyones comment on the FSD's compared to the yellows? I realize u can adjust the yellows, but honestly, I dont have much of a clue how to adjust or what level to adjust to, and id hate to be goin back n forth to my shop just to do so.
The FSD's are self-adjusting determined by the road, correct? I think overall im a little uneasy bout messing with this car's suspension, I had neuspeed springs and fsd's put on my Mk5 GTI and not sure if i was real happy with how it turned out, the ride was harsher and sorta clunky. It could have been a not so perfect install by my previous shop but I dunno, just seemed like all that money spent into it really didnt make much of a difference..least on that ride. |
