Which order do cylinders go in? Front to back?

I have a misfire on cylinder 4. Is that the 4th cylinder from the front or 4th cylinder from the rear?

Help is much appreciated as I have to be at dinner in 1.5 hours and my car is in pieces in my driveway right now.
