Open Hood & Pwr

Does leaving the hood open for a long period of time drain any of the battery? Does the car still go to sleep?

With the hood open and the car off, I don't think it has any drain on the battery. Makes no sense to me other then the key being near the car if your working on it.

Unless the car is locked, which the hood needs to be closed to happen, the car is not going to enter its sleep mode. It's going to keep cycling a few systems and other things that would normally be dormant if the car was locked. The trunk, hood and all doors need to be closed for the system to function as intended.

From what you wrote I understand that the system will be drawing small amounts of energy from the battery with the hood open. I connect a trickle charger to the car because there are times I do not dive it for a week or more and then just for short distances.

I would also think that this was the norm. The key is not near the car.

If you leave a modern BMW parked in a garage unlocked, or with the hood open, it will prematurely drain the battery.

Modern BMWs use a highly sensitive IBS sensor which will prevent the car from going to sleep if the hood is open. Read more at this link: https://www.youcanic.com/guide/bmw-i...ery-sensor-ibs

I do the same, but I have my trickle charger connected to the battery in the trunk. The wire is thin enough that I can completely close the trunk and lock the car while its plugged in and charging.

I leave the hood open all the time, and can lock the car, and it'll even go to sleep. I can even leave the trunk open and on a charger, and still lock it and it'll go to sleep. Maybe this is a result of not having the alarm system?

Same thing here. No problem locking the car with the hood open.
