Red face How to update idrive, maps, etc?

I bought a used 2011 135i N55 and I realized the maps may be dated.
I don't see "update" option in settings that exists on my newer 3er.

How do I:
- update to latest available CIC firmware/software
- get latest maps/navigation
- get traffic info (it never shows traffic info)
- latest DCT/ECU stock tune

For CIC firmware/maps updates you need to purchase maps and load them via USB.

Traffic info is a setting, haven't looked at how to turn it off/on since I have not used my internal nav once lol.

For latest DCT/ECU OE tunes you'll need to have a dealership or indy flash the car.

You can get map upgrades from the dealer, but they are a lot cheaper from one of the third party sellers. The updates can be downloaded to multiple USB drives. The sticks then will be plugged into the USB port located in the glovebox. You'll need an FSC code (think that's what they're called). And it takes around an hour to update once they're downloaded.

I think I spent all up $50 give or take rather than the almost $200 plus to have the dealer do it.

Thanks.
Is there a way to update to latest DME DIY? I see people manually flashing PPK, so DME should also be self doable.
p.s. how do I check current DME version?

Since your car is older than 02/2012, it will accept the PPK flash.

You might be able through a SiriusXM subscription, however I never tried it. I use Google maps and have it give me directions through the car speakers.

We get live traffic via RDS-TMC, or, simply put, over FM radio. Similar to the side band stuff that gets you radio station names and current song title I believe.

RDS-TMC = Radio Data System – Traffic Messaging Channel

Not available in all areas, and not always offered 24 hours a day. Works pretty well where I am, and Tally is not exactly a huge place...

Interesting. I live in an area covered by RDS-TMC, but have never seen it working or any button to turn it on.

Any other Canadians have it?

Edit: Just found a video. May just be turned off. Doh!

Mine's an '09, so certainly an older version than your '13, but I've got stuff scattered all through my nav for traffic info

I just purchased my 135, and I don't believe I have any assist but I am getting traffic updates and it breaks into Navs in progress to ask me if I want to reroute.

About the only thing I'd use the assist feature for is to send destinations to the Nav as I find the wheel a bit slow (though fast enough once you get used to it). The traffic feature is nice but I believe my car has nothing as the BMW iPhone app does nothing but show me gallons of gas and estimated miles left.
