Good write up about the history of the M cars and the necessary changes BMW has had to make over the years to stay in business. I'll keep my 1M and e30 M3 thank you very much. A great mix of old school M and New age M

Way back when I was a wee noob here, I posted something to the effect of "this is the one; this is the car that changed it all" when referencing the fact that the 1M was going to put the M Division back on track versus its rivals by focusing on turbo, torque, and trimming the weight. I'm pretty surprised that the author didn't specifically mention the 1M, but that is my own personal bias.
