1M on Rally Rd.
Neat to see the 1M pop up on Rally Rd (car investment app) in company with the Z8 and E30 M3. Might be neat to pick up a few shares for the fun of it.
Looks like it was serviced by EAG and had the front bumper refinished. Not sure how that will affect the price of this one down the road. Looks like Rally bought it for $84k and selling 2,000 shares at $42. You'll have to register to see all the details; but I will post some screenshots. https://rallyrd.com

It looks like the cars sit in storage.
Quote:
As to this specific car, it was listed on here in 2017 and according to the OP, sold for $74k (presumably to EAG): https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show...php?p=22304846 Then EAG had it listed for $82k. Now RallyRd is selling the shares for a total of $84k. If you like to read SEC filings, you can read more about their business model, holdings and agreements. https://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-e...ion=getcompany Edit: Actually, they have the summary of the 1M purchase in the offering circular: "Purchase Option Agreement, to acquire Underlying Asset for $78,500, entered on October 20, 2018 with expiration on January 20, 2019 " https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/d...8/rse1apos.htm Last edited by analogue; 01-05-2019 at 12:21 PM.. |

Yikes, I think I'll stick to index funds and keep my own 1M which I can actually drive.
Cars are not good investments - 98% of the time they will underperform other assets. $50k invested in the S&P in 2011 would have at least doubled by today. The winners in the 1M game are those owners who have driven their cars 10-20k+ miles and had the value go up a little. You enjoyed the car while preserving the capital. Those who bought these and put 3-5k miles on them trying to maximize their return - you would have been better off elsewhere |

poor 1M. already suffered a life of neglect and not being driven; ending up in the automotive brothel that is EAG---now it's being whored out and kept in captivity in a capitalist zoo for gawkers and tossers trying to make money off it. The torture never ends!

If that is the case, which is easier, finding the right car to invest in or the right stock? Is the 1M a good invetment? Based on the $84k investment level this one would have to be worth $280k in ten years to meet the average. Hope so, but i find it hard to believe that it will. This article offers a similar opinion: https://www.thestreet.com/lifestyle/...tocks-14650873 However, if this is an investment strategy you are considering, be sure to make it a small percentage of a large diversified portfolio. |

Sure did. I'll update this thread in the future on how the price is doing and when it opens up again to buying / selling shares.

I don't think comparing Amazon to a 1M is a fair comparison lol maybe let's compare it to BMWYY at $27 on Jan 4th?

Curious to see in a year what was better? My guess is that Amazon will be the better investment 🤔 |

i dont think there is any denying there are better ways to invest your money... But this could be fun. I mean, I didnt throw down very much at all... And i am reasonably comfortable in saying the 1M will continue to rise in value. so its all good.

I think it is funny that 2 of the cars in the portfolio are cars I own. It got me to to thinking of how I came to the decision to buy both a 1M & a Z8. I had owned a Porsche 993 for about 10 years and in 2011 I decided it was time to move on to something else. The car was going to be a weekend, sunny day driver. I was tired of losing $ on essentially a toy. So I narrowed down the search to more of a limited production car. The thought was to minimize the depreciation. No thought on appreciation. It was either going to be a Ford GT or the Z8. Both were trending in low-to mid $100,000's, the GT just a little more at the time. Loved the GT. Brutal, fast beast of a car. However, there is not 1 ounce for storage in this car. Not even a place for sunglasses in the interior. I eventually ruled it out.
Always loved the Z8 since it came out. Classic lines and completely bespoke beautiful interior & guts of the M5 at the time. Convertible, and had a decent trunk for weekend jaunts. Found one from original owner with under 10,000 miles. I love it as much today as the day I bought it. Almost 20 years old & some people think it is a new model! I brought it to the dealer for an oil change and it being 2011, in the showroom was a brand new 1M. I thought wow, that is a cool little coupe, all angry & flared. Fast forward to 2017. I had room for another car and thought back to the 1M. I did not even know that the # imported was even less than the Z8. Found a stock AW 1M with under 10,000 miles & bought it. Only after I had it in the garage did I learn the whole development back story which is so cool. That turned out to be a great buy as well. So, both are nestled under covers for the winter. Come spring both will come out to play. I could have made more $$ in the market, but then I would have no toys to play with. |
