I think this is objectively cool, if not everyone's cup of tea. Its not like anyone at the time liked the way the 1 actually turned out anyway.
An element of nostalgia would be lost on most for this to be popular. I'll guess the 1r has a following that 20yrs from now could have a renewed interest.

When admiring M3 e30's or e21 323's I see the precursor more then 2002's. I'd dislike future admirers to look at my 1r as a BMW PT Cruiser ish. I think if BMW releases this 02 retro in 2007 it would have less of a following now and once the novelty wears off it's A punchline.
I agree to an extent. Some rear-view-re-dos can be well done like the mustang & camaro. Others like the HHR, thunderbird or bronco should just not happen. I like this one b/c it's a modern car in vintage cover. That said I wouldn't pay $80k for it. Heck, I buy used BMWs for a reason. Depreciated.

Anyway, just got my monthly edition of Roundel mag. Look what's on the cover.

If it went down a normal production line it would be priced same as a M240 right, give or take... would you want it then? would you want it 3yrs later when off lease 45% depreciated? I'd guess my 128i current pros- NA RWD MT replacement matters more then how it looks, modern N52 under warranty $45-50k vert I'd buy retro or not, this size vs the bloated Charger, Mustang and Camaro matters too.

A big convenience of a 1r is how many overlap of parts with e36, e46 and e9x with little or no mods, coming out retro using that same bin would invite a purchase too? These 2 retro cars show brilliancy and I like them but(BUT) $80k no way unless full support from mfg makes this a better mouse trap that beats a path to BMW's door.

Sorta turn your 1 Series into a 2002?

This neo-2002 (from German-based Everytimer Automobiles) made me smile.

Saw it in real life at Bimmerfest Netherlands, where some of these pics are from.

Looks cool from the outide, but the stock interior makes it feel incomplete.

Very creative! But not sure if you can call it a restomod if it's not using the original chassis. Looks a bit weird to be honest. Not really my cup of tea but kudos for all the work.

I would definitely buy this. Love everything but the rear.
I have always wondered why more companies don't do this...retrofitting old classics on modern chassis and interiors.
I would love to see this done to an E30.

I dig the way it looks, but the price is a little on the steep side. Definitely a conversation starter!

It's cool but retro mod is risky business. Never forget the HHS.

The mustang Camaro and challenger obviously were successful.

The e82 is just a fat pig compared to the 02 though.
