How to access upper rear shocks
So I've searched & looked at E90 videos but our E82's are different.
Inside the trunk I took out the 1 rivet I saw but the trunk liner is very stiff and I don't know if I should attack the rest of the liner from the rear [maybe starting near the tail light] OR some how from where the liner goes behind the corner piece of the rear seat. In case its not obvious, I'm replacing rear shocks. Thanks in advance. |

Plastic trim by the center tray has 1 screw and 1 trim rivet on each side. Then there are any additional 3 trim rivets per side of trunk liner. The front of the trunk liner is held in by the rear side seat bolster which pulls forward to unclip once the seat back is down.
1. Remove tray 2. Remove screws and rivets from plastic trim, pull up on the bottom to give yourself room to work. 3. Put seats down 4. Locate and remove all plastic rivets from liner. 5. Pull forward on side bolster to free liner 6. Slide liner out from rear, it's tricky. 7. Access for RSM is under a rubber grommet. Reassemble in reverse. The liner is a bitch to get back in. Good luck!

Work in progress. Tray? Is this the piece that the battery sits in? or the 30"x35" floor cover? Only found 2 rivets per side so far. Does the center plastic piece by trunk latch have to come out? Does rubber trunk seal have to be pulled out to get this piece out?

I start by the taillights and work forward. The cardboard floor tray needs to come out, as does the plastic trim around the trunk lip & latch at the bottom/rear of the car.
Drop the rear seats and with some wiggling/struggle the liners come out. They are a bit of a bitch but once you do you it's easier to repeat. Good luck. |

OK, so left and right side pieces/covers out.
-"Tray" mentioned above is actually floor piece, 30"x35" & lifts right out -definitely 3 plastic rivets per side -center plastic piece by trunk latch (L=24½") does not have to come out -the 2 pieces by rear seat; simply pull down at top to un-latch -once all 4 sides are released, the covers can simply be pulled out from the rear. I plan on keeping this car for a long time; I may cut access holes in the sides/covers so I don't have to go thru this again. asbrr: thanks for your comments-saw them after work was done. Hopefully I can reinstall with 24.5" piece still installed Last edited by NorthernDancer; 08-25-2019 at 04:32 PM.. Reason: add info |
