understand with the sensor in the rear, however, 1M is supposed to be dry-sump?.

(must admit to some spirited driving during run-in, however that's what they're built for!)
Strange coincidence, my oil warning went on 3 times yesterday on my run and each time a non-event. In between red and green, it sat for a while 'measuring oil level'. Faulty sensors maybe

That is bizzar.. I have never had this happen. And I drove my car like I stole it, straight out of the dealer, and actually drove the initial 2K break in HARD.. Didn't follow the recommended under 5K RPM period..

IF you do a lot of short trips and build up condensation in the oil (ie the oil temp never really gets too hot) the oil level gauge can display a false oil level (ie low). Read this TIS (oil condition sensor - page #5 bottom of page)...

BMW_oil_condition_sensor.pdf

These TIS's might also be of interest for any early build cars.

Ha..tell the missus, you get 3 years probo for murder...lol Not for having fun.

Enjoy the car Don.. The "M" button is always on in my car... The throttle is more sensitive, so I always leave on as standard drive..

The "M" button is my Amex.. " Never Leave Home Without It "..

Not sure if it has been mentioned already but sometimes the light goes off if your car is stationary on an incline.

I have a follow up question (this is my first BMW so please bear with me). i have a 2007 116i - Yesterday while driving back from work 'low engine oil' sign popped up and it suggested to add 1L oil. I freaked out and stopped my car to check for any visible leakages (didn't find any). I started driving - the sign disappeared but after 10-15 mins the sign came back up again. And today in the morning before leaving for work - i checked the oil level and it said oil level OK (right in the middle of the gauge on the dashboard). I decided to take the public transport - being unsure of the oil level readings. The reason i freaked out was because i had a oil change 6 months ago (have driven 2k km since) - when i bought the car it had 166k on the meter and now its 168k. Is this serious? Or i should simply put 1L in it? HELP!

This happens to my car, esp if I haven't topped the oil up in a while and also have been parked on a significant slope. If it asks for a litre i always put in 600-700 ml and its ok

Normal to consume oil?

Is it normal for the 116i 2007 to consume roughly 1L oil over 6 months (after hard winters)?
