Air leak noise on window

I'm new to the forum. .. I got a new 135i about a month a go and when I reach speeds over 75mph I can hear some air leaking noise coming from the top of the windows. Since I'm in Minnesota and it's been crazy cold I'm wondering if the low temperatures have something to do with it. Does anyone else have this problem?

Common issue, many have had it as well, in my case, it went away. It's almost as if the car learns by doing. Spooky ghost in the machine.:biggrin:

Welcome to 1ADDICTS. Lots of helpful folks around here. Enjoy. BTW, don't be afraid to :

Cheers.:roundel:

There's a service bulletin on this issue. Had mine replaced for the same issue.

imdanomite Thank you very much, I'm making an appointment on Monday, the car is great but that air noise is not acceptable in a 40K car...

Great question...not in many places... I may get a few seconds here and there in the hwy, if the roads are dry.... it's been my biggest frustration since I got the car. In terms of speed, feels like the Citroen 2CV could go just as fast as the 135... it's killing me.

I took my car in a few weeks ago for this but they didn't have the parts in stock so I have to wait 3 more weeks.

So I dropped of my car this morning and my SA tried to tell me that it's provably normal because the car does not have a window frame. He asked me if I have ever owned a car without a window frame. I told him no but I also told him that I did own a $500 dollar 1983 Chevette that did not have that much air noise either... anyway, to make the story short, I had a printed copy of this TBS and I handed it over. He look at it and acted surprised.
Around lunch time, I had a voice mail at work form the SA saying that he ordered the parts based on the TBS that I gave him and they will arrive tomorrow. . In the meantime, I'm stuck with this &%^$.. 4 cylinders Nissan Altima loaner that does nothing but remind me how nice and how much I missed my 135
I guess they run out of BMW loaners this morning.... disappointing service since I had a loaner reserved since the day I made the appointment.

This is why I am a member of this site, to search and find if what issues I have are a problem. I have had this driver side wind noise also. At Highway speeds above 65 mph. Called my SA and made appointment and he told me "that may be hard to find". Ut oh..

He called me later and told me they will need to order the window seal parts from Germany and that should take care of it. He said about 10 days to 2 weeks. thanks for the info. Soon I can be going over 90.... in near silence.
The info on this site is great.

Well, I got my car back, however, they did not fixed it yet. The parts never arrived like they said. Just like everyone else who have experience this problem, they order them from Germany and it's going to take about 7 days before they arrive. I will have to leave them the car for another day since they have to do some window adjustments after they put the new seals. After is fixed I will let everyone know if it's better or not...

I might get bashed for this but I get sick and tired of knowing more about my damn car than the guys who get paid to know about BMW's. I hate it when SA's tell you something is normal and just live with it when the the manufacturer acknowledges it's a problem and sends out a TSB. It takes but a few minutes for an SA to search the BMW site for TSB's related to the 1er. I bet if it were their money spent on the car and they were dealing with the wind noise they would find the TSB !! I can't wait to get me car out of storage and take it to the dealer to have this fixed. The wind noise is the ONLY complaint I have about the car.

^^the sunroof doesn't really block out the wind noise fully. i have the same issue and i've tried adjusting the glass, but no luck. only thing i can think of is replacing the seal, but i doubt that'll fix it as well. i've replaced sunroof seals on other BMWs for this same reason and have had little luck

BTW, SA don't know about TSBs. it is entirely up to the technician to find it. part of being a technician is to know how to diagnose a complaint. looking up a TSB is part of the diag procedure.

let us know if they're able to fix the problem. weird how the seals are not available in the states.

I just picked up my 1 last week and noticed this wind noise immediately on my drive home. Wind noise at highway speeds is LOUD (so much so that passengers's comment on it and wonder if I left a window open). I was actually wondering if it wasn't more of a design issue...for example I notice the wipers stick out above the hood...that could cause noise. I'm not sure this TSB would affect me as I my car was only produced last month. Anyone know the date of this TSB?

production date doesn't really matter. if its the same problem as the TSB, the dealer can use it as a reference. it's still a warranty matter.
